Today, I took to the Senate floor to try to pass funding for TSA. My Republican colleagues said no. They are holding all the other Homeland Security agencies hostage because of ICE. Set ICE aside while we negotiate reforms. Fund everything else today.

Republicans blocked our bill to fully fund TSA & their agents. This is the 8th time they've blocked our attempts to reopen TSA, FEMA, & other agencies outside of ICE & CBP at DHS. But they would rather hold these agencies hostage to give Trump's ICE & CBP another blank check.

Sen. Mark Warner yesterday declared that Virginia’s “voted ID” law is a model for the nation. We don’t have voter ID in Virginia. Showing an electric bill constitutes voter ID. Time to replace “Two-Term” Warner with a senator who doesn’t spend his days rage-tweeting about Republicans and gaslighting the public.

I will not be supporting Senator Mullin’s nomination to be the next Secretary of Homeland Security. The problems at DHS, especially at ICE and CBP, run far deeper than just who is in charge. Americans need a change in DHS POLICY. We demand legislation to rein in ICE and end the violence.

The SAVE Act is a solution to a problem that does not exist. Noncitizen voting is already illegal, already extremely rare, and already prosecuted when it occurs. Every credible study confirms this. Election officials will tell you the same thing. Which means this bill was never about protecting elections. It was always about making it harder for eligible American citizens to vote. Requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register sounds reasonable until you realize that millions of Americans, veterans, seniors, rural residents, working parents, and others do not have easy access to the documents this bill demands. The costs and the bureaucratic hurdles fall hardest on the very people who already face the most barriers to participation. For millions of eligible voters, it is effectively a tax on voting. If Republicans were serious about election integrity, they would be working with us to fund election infrastructure and making it easier for every eligible citizen to cast a ballot and have it counted. Instead they want to make it harder. Every American who believes in fair elections, regardless of party, should be asking why. #SAVEActTaxesVoting
