it's a kind of mental gymnastics to simultaneously believe that the leadership of the church are prophets, seers and revelators who administer the church according to constant revelation and that they are also constantly being hoodwinked by PR employees

@sarahlol1863603 @ProfBZZZ It also kills me that students who do still go above and beyond, and genuinely thirst for knowledge get the same grades as kids who are barely doing more than phoning it in

@7thgenFLMan @ProfBZZZ I remember getting a B+ on a paper in college that to this day, in the clarity of adulthood, I think should've been a higher grade The idea of complaining to the department would've been alien to me. I doubled down and made the next paper FLAWLESS, driven by coffee and spite

A student today at my elite university admitted to me today that she took a class so she could work on reading for more than 20 minutes at a time. She can't read. She mainly skims and summarizes, she says and still gets A's. This student is, by professional standards, illiterate. Gonna have high GPA when she graduates. This conversation was had after 6 of 22 students dropped my course because the maximum reading per week in one week was over 100 pages. What people aren't grasping is that this is literally *dangerous*. These people are going to be come doctors, engineers, etc. They are - by any metric - vastly less capable than prior generations. These effects are cumulative over a lifetime. This grade inflation is part of the problem, but not even close to the entirety. And the problem obviously starts in K-12. Students don't know history because, you can't actually become historically literate on the advice of 'never assign more than 30 pages a week'. You can't develop any of the skills that came with literacy. This is, quite honestly, a civilizational catastrophe.

79% of grades at Yale are A-range. Graduating summa cum laude requires a record high GPA OF 3.98.

@ProfBZZZ Then I am told to give them an A because "they obviously learned everything they were supposed to learn." What ever happened to exceptionality? A should be for the kids who go above and beyond what was minimally required, like the kids who stay late and ask deep questions after

@ProfBZZZ I teach high school, and I've noticed that the expectation is an A, and if I grade anything lower than an A, then there must be something wrong. Mediocre, average work shouldn't be an A, but if they "said everything they are supposed to say" without detail or deep explanation, 1/

@NoblestCalling @evanwch Is not complaining at all, but the psychological toll it's taking on him is massive. He can't even just do projects around the house in case she tries to get out of bed and falls, and he doesn't hear her. Having time outside of caretaking is vital to keeping caretakers sane

@NoblestCalling @evanwch After watching my dad take care of my mom, I'm not sure that's the best route. My mom is so dependent on my mom at this point that he can't even leave to get groceries for more than 15 minutes, and his entire life right now revolves around taking care of her. He loves her and 1/

Because the alternative is to institutionalize severely disabled people. This keeps them with their family members For example, I know someone who has a young disabled son who has to sleep on a ventilator each night to stay alive and this program allows him to live with his family instead of hours away in a care facility If this program weren’t available, she would have to work 40 hours a week to institutionalize him. Because of it, she is able to provide him 24-7 care instead of a stranger

EXCLUSIVE: California spends $30 billion per year paying 800,000 people to cook, clean, shop, and watch television with family members and others. This "in-home care" program operates mostly on the honor system—and loses $6 to $12 billion a year to fraud. city-journal.org/article/califo…

@jkimballcook @Euro_Fly1 @BasedMikeLee Native Americans born on reservations are still birthright citizens. All native American land is still under the final legal jurisdiction of the US government, IE federal laws still apply on reservations, although enforcement is sporadic

@Euro_Fly1 @BasedMikeLee I think it's pretty clear that they intended to make citizens out of anyone born here with the exception of the traditional common law exceptions (children of enemy soldiers in occupied territory or ambassadors) and members of Indian nations that maintained their sovereignty. 1/

Yoda is the Boomer stuck in his ways. Windu/Qui Gon are opposing types of Gen Xers. Obi Wan is the Millennial who followed the rules and did everything he was taught was right only to end up homeless, broke, and single anyway. And Anakin is the fatherless radicalized GenZ.
