بعد سبع سنوات تشرفت خلالها بخدمة وطننا الغالي رئيساً لمجلس إدارة الاتحاد السعودي لكرة القدم، أرفع خالص الشكر والامتنان لمقام مولاي خادم الحرمين الشريفين وسمو سيدي ولي العهد -حفظهما الله- على ما حظيت به رياضة كرة القدم السعودية من دعم كريم وغير محدود، كان ولا يزال أساساً لكل ما تحقق من إنجازات. كما أتقدم بالشكر الجزيل لسمو وزير الرياضة على دعمه المستمر، وحرصه الدائم، وتحمله الكثير في سبيل خدمة رياضة الوطن. لقد بذلنا، أنا وزملائي أعضاء مجلس الإدارة، كل ما نستطيع لخدمة كرة القدم السعودية، وسعينا بكل إخلاص لتحقيق تطلعات وطننا وجماهيرنا، إلا أن عدم تأهل منتخبنا الوطني للدور المقبل في كأس العالم نتيجة لا ترقى إلى طموحاتنا جميعاً، وأنا أتحمل مسؤوليتها كاملة، وأعتذر لكل من كان يأمل أن يرى منتخبنا في موقع أفضل. وانطلاقًا من قناعتي بأن المسؤولية تقتضي إتاحة الفرصة لمرحلة جديدة، فقد قررت عدم الاستمرار حتى نهاية الدورة الحالية، وسندعو وفقًا للإجراءات واللوائح النظامية- إلى البدء في إجراءات فتح باب الترشح لانتخابات مجلس إدارة جديد. أغادر المنصب، لكنني سأبقى -بإذن الله- جنديًا مخلصًا في خدمة وطني وقيادته الرشيدة، وسأظل داعمًا لكل ما يسهم في رفعة الرياضة السعودية ونجاحها. شكرًا لكل من ساندنا، وشكرًا لجماهيرنا التي كانت طموحاتها كبيرة، ونرجو منها العذر إن أخطأنا أو قصّرنا. وأسأل الله أن يوفق من يأتي بعدنا، وأن يكون مستقبل كرة القدم السعودية أكثر إشراقًا، بما يليق بوطننا وطموحاته.
