I am against the death penalty in peace time but I do think one of the greatest mistakes the US made was not executing this traitorous leadership, or at least jailing them for life, and instead allowing them back into positions of leadership. We have been suffering from that lack of will since. They understood the stakes and assassinated Lincoln immediately. Anyway, buy this book:

I went out to dinner with one of my great friends last week, and he brought one of his buddies who I met a long time ago. Nice guy, pretty solidly left, but not obnoxious about it. He asked me about Hegseth and if I thought he was qualified to be Secretary of War. I kept it simple and told him this: generally speaking, the gunfighters and other combat- oriented troops very much support what he's doing. You know who doesn't like him? Politicians, corrupt defense industry people, and the military brass that have been grossly incompetent and political animals during the GWOT. He looked at me with no trace of irony and said, "Good to know."
