@electronluke @big_pedestrian I hate this weird rural elitism where people think residents of cities don't know what farms are and think food magically appears in grocery stores.

@big_pedestrian The purpose of gardening in a city is to demonstrate where food comes from.

I appreciate seagulls. They are not noble but I will stick up for seagulls. The shore should be a lively place full of thieves.

My controversial take on this: some historic neighborhoods should be exempt from new housing requirements within their borders. Menlo-Artherton is a breathtakingly beautiful neighborhood. And I, a non-billionaire, would be sad if it was filled with Section 8 ghetto buildings. Instead, I think Menlo-Atherton should be able to fulfill its density and new housing requirements by building that housing elsewhere, in places where density makes more sense. Basically, you should be able to buy and sell your "dense new housing" credits, and build them elsewhere.

@danb841 @MattZeitlin That was a hypothetical idea someone had, so they did the math to prove that it couldn't happen. It was never "established theory" that a nuke would ignite the atmosphere.

@ABorealis2931 @MattZeitlin The unique aspect of the atomic bomb isn’t that no one did the math. It’s that the established theory at the time was that one nuke would chain react in the sky and destroy the atmosphere. And also no one applied disparate theories like Oppenheimer.

@danb841 @MattZeitlin The atomic bomb is a wild example for the point you're trying to make. You don't think anyone did any math in between first splitting the atom and the Trinity test?

@MattZeitlin Every scientific advancement in history. Solid rocket fuel, the atomic bomb, airplanes etc didn’t adhere to theories or were problematic to even consider. And then some crazy person tried it without understanding the math and it worked. It’s the one constant in the world.

@esjesjesj Just as a comparison. Valhalla's credits were only 40 minutes long. And Mirage was 50. A simple 10 minute gap between them. Meaning Shadows added about an hour and 10 minutes of credits between games.

Imagine framing the closing of *an oceanfront highway that will be replaced with a park* like this. What car companies have done to the American brain will be studied by social scientists for centuries.
SFGATE@SFGate

San Francisco said farewell Friday to a section of its prized oceanside boulevard, the Great Highway. The city is getting a park in its place, which is scheduled to open in April, but not everyone is happy with the trade.
