First Nations people's health is improving, but disease burden is 2.3X higher than non-Indigenous Australians. 2/3 of the health gap is from #NCDs incl mental health, diabetes, cardiovascular & kidney disease, & vision, hearing & oral conditions #ActOnNCDs aihw.gov.au/reports/austra…

Chronic disease, or NCDs, cause 87% of deaths in the Western Pacific Region. Action to address the structural and systemic drivers of chronic disease has never been more urgent. Great to learn from @WHOWPRO colleagues and health leaders now, and share the work of @VicHealth.

Known major risk factors for #ChronicDisease in Australia are #Tobacco use, #Overweight & #Obesity, #Dietary risks, high #BloodPressure, #Alcohol use & #PhysicalInactivity. Climate extremes and air pollution are also recognised risks. #ActOnNCDs aihw.gov.au/reports-data/a…

Up to 40% of Australia's disease burden is preventable. That may not mean stopping disease from developing in the first place, but it may lessen a its impact and severity, and improve a person's quality of life. #Prevention benefits everyone. #ActOnNCDs aihw.gov.au/reports-data/a…

Chronic conditions can impact anyone. Having one condition or disability can also increase risk of other chronic conditions, and complicate treatment and care, necessitating both population and targeted approaches to NCD prevention and management. #ActOnNCDs

#MentalHealth conditions are also chronic conditions, and often co-exist with other chronic conditions or #NCDs. 🟡More than 3/5 people live with a long-term condition. 🔵Nearly 2/5 people live with more than one long-term condition. Via @AIHW aihw.gov.au/reports/austra… #ActOnNCDs
