Today, I was pleased to receive the newly elected Guild Speaker @trevismuhwezi and Ms. Akello Evas, Deputy Speaker of @MakGuild, together with other Guild leaders, who paid me a courtesy visit at my office at Parliament. What makes this visit even more special is that this new Speaker is my constituent and a son to Mr. Wilberforce Muhwezi, my chief campaigner and one of our senior elders and opinion leaders in Ruhinda North. I’m happy to see that more young people from such a rural setting have been inspired to take on leadership roles at a national level. Our engagement focused on the contemporary challenges facing students at @Makerere and the role of student leadership in shaping responsive governance. I commend them for their thoughtful proposals, including advocating for the inclusion of university students as volunteers in the organization of the upcoming AFCON tournament that Uganda will co-host. We also discussed the possibility of a partnership between my office and the Guild Council to convene a Joint Inter-Guild Session in the National Parliamentary Chambers. This would provide a platform for student leaders to deliberate on key issues affecting students and formally present their proposals to Parliament. Additionally, they requested for a dialogue with the 92nd GRC House of Makerere University, through which I will share insights from my experience on the role of student leadership in shaping governance at the national level. I thank the Guild leadership for their visit and commitment to constructive engagement. @Parliament_Ug remains open to supporting initiatives that empower young people and strengthen their contribution to national development.
