@MerihBlue In Eritrea, locals are trapped in indefinite conscription -forced labor like slavery -needing permission to move, work, or live freely. Meanwhile, some in the diaspora fly in, take opportunities, and fly back to freedom. Same flag, completely different realities.

@AmanEri @Habtishgreat @DFB_Team It says a lot about Eritrea-not about citizenship, but why locals aren’t there: depopulation, movement restrictions, & lack of opportunity. It points to a deeper problem-a Faustian dynamic where the diaspora end up collaborating with a totalitarian system for short-term gain.

@Aribanob @AfricanHorner Those who suffer run away; those who are free step in-albeit temporarily-taking advantage. Locals are trapped-restricted in movement & denied opportunity. Diaspora pfdj took advantage, not to push for fairness, but to benefit from the very system they avoid living under.

Eritrean national football team's squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers relies heavily on diaspora players who live outside Eritrea and hold second or dual citizenship. Home-based players often defect and seek political asylum abroad during away matches—a pattern linked to the country's indefinite national/military service policies, with over 60 defections since 2009. Diaspora players are now being actively called up as a “fix” for the team. Nearly the entire home-based national team had previously fled, forcing the federation to turn to foreign-based players. Only a small number of local (home-based) players are selected. Eritrea is playing today Eswatini in Morocco today. G00D LUCK. The full roster below not confirmed

Eritrea today represents one of the most enduring cases of institutionalised repression in the modern world. For decades, governance has operated without a constitution in practice, without independent courts, without a free press, and without political pluralism. This is not merely a political failure it is a structural system designed to suppress accountability. Multiple international reports, including findings presented at the United Nations Human Rights Council, have documented patterns that point to widespread and systematic abuses, including arbitrary detention, indefinite national service, and severe restrictions on freedom of expression. When a state eliminates independent institutions, it removes the very mechanisms that protect citizens. When journalists disappear, truth disappears with them. When courts are silent, justice becomes impossible. This is not governance it is control. The long-term consequence is visible: A generation deprived of education, opportunity, and voice. A society where fear replaces civic participation. A nation where silence is mistaken for stability. The question is no longer whether reform is needed. The question is how long the world will tolerate a system that denies fundamental human dignity. #BlueRevolution #TransnationalRepression #NoMorePFDJTerror #JusticeForEritrea #DemocracyNow #HumanRights #Accountability @UNHumanRights @amnesty @hrw @EU_Commission @StateDept @AlJazeera @BBCWorld @CNN @dw_politics

He escaped hell. Three times. Now Egypt wants to send him back. My friend @phelemawi’s brother has nowhere left to run. He fled Eritrea's oppressive regime and endless national service, essentially modern slavery. He escaped the war in Ethiopia. He fled the chaos of war in Sudan. Registered with @Refugees , he did everything right. Now Egypt wants to send him back to the very hell he fled from. @UNHCR @Amnesty @hrw , you were created for moments like this. This is why you exist. Do not look away. He is not alone, @HRCE reports over 3,000 Eritrean refugees arrested in Egypt since January 10. Among them, my friend's brother. A real person. A name. A family. A mother who prays. please help….before it’s too late. 👉🏼 newscentraltv.com/ngo-uncovers-a…

@wode_maya “Safety” is impressive - until you remember a system that has uprooted over a million of its own citizens. When z youth are missing & scattered worldwide, that silence says more than any stat-btw, z guy works for z ruling party, just like z others… all carefully choreographed.

@BusInsiderSSA Eritrea - if the “surprise” is discovering an economy can run on zero internet, zero banking, and a workforce trapped in indefinite conscription. A place where the biggest export is its youth, and silence is the main policy.

Highlighting child mortality in #Eritrea is great but let's not cherry pick data while ignoring the bigger crisis, a nation with no constitution, no elections & no rule of law. Never mind that @FikreJesus would you also share youth retention rate or should we call it a mass exodus of an entire generation. ዕድል አይገበርናን…Real educated voices don’t sugarcoat reality they confront it. #NomorePFDJTerror

Regardless of other facts This is a REAL FACT Asmara Piccolo Roma of the 1930s In 30 yrs #PFDJ has made it a backward-moving town ከምዚ ለውጥ ዝባሃል ሕማማ ናይ ሳዋ #PFDJ has no shame and no regrets about it. It doesn’t hide it either, because it doesn’t have progress, development or prosperity in its DNA. Few of its nationalist loyalists እሞ ውሽጥ ሑሩር ከይንዎም—they are still in denial.

@AmdeBrahan @Aribanob The nation born from the Eritrean War of Independence and the 1993 Eritrean independence referendum reflects popular will-the problem is how it’s been governed. The regime prioritize survival & control not public welfare. Neglect is not accidental-it’s structural & intentional

Life without internet is so "interesting" huh? Tell that to the mothers who haven't seen their sons in 20 years because of indefinite service. You got your visa after years, filmed your curated tour, uploaded for subs and cash, and dipped. Selfish as hell, ignoring real Eritreans suffering for your content farm. #EBRF #TransnationalRepression #BlueRevolution #Eritrea #NoMorePFDJTerror

@RedSeaBeaks @ErmiLiberty Romanticizing isolation isn’t storytelling -it’s whitewashing repression.Eritrea’s “simple life” is enforced stagnation-with no opportunity. The empty streets? A generation lost to indefinite conscription & exile. What’s shown is a curated silence masking a totalitarian system.

The people of #Eritrea are condemned [by the rogue pfdj regime] to be left behind in the 21st-century world, even by African standards. They have now become a kind of tourist attraction for an ancient way of life—a lifestyle that reflects how humans lived before the tech innovations of the 21st century, which is still the norm in Eritrea. According to @wode_maya this is interesting 🫤. No internet, no wifi , no ATM machines, no mobile banking , . . . @wode_maya why are the streets empty ? No youth ? You went to Massawa but nothing was in good condition to be portrayed positively. Did you self censored that or it was part of the deal [to be granted the visa] ?

@ElizabethTecle @gualtesfa8 Even the traditional law of ኣድከመ ምልጋእ had rules and fairness: if a hunting dog helped bring down a gazelle, it was entitled to two legs. Today’s #Eritrea sadly lives under #PFDJ’s jungle law-no constitution, no rule of law, and citizens reduced to indefinite servitude.

This’s is a joke…Japan ambassador speaking of "strengthening legal relations" with #Eritrea; a country with no constitution & citizens jailed indefinitely without trial. What exactly are you trying to strengthen a legal system that doesn't even exist. Pls spare us the hypocrisy. #NomorePFDJTerror #BlueRevolution #EBRF @JAPANinERITREA
