I was honored to testify before @HouseCommerce today on the state of American travel and tourism, and the hotel industry. My message was simple: Travel and tourism are essential to the American economy and we look forward to working more closely with Congress and the Administration to spur travel, especially on the eve of global sporting events coming to our shores. I also shared that it’s been a tough few years for our small business hotel owners and operators. But we are resilient and the future of American travel and tourism is bright. Travel opens doors and builds appreciation for American culture and values. Congress plays an important role in ensuring America remains the most hospitable nation in the world. Chairman @RepGusBilirakis, Ranking Member @janschakowsky, and members of the Committee, thank you for your leadership and for the opportunity to testify today.

It was an honor to speak with Denver Mayor @MikeJohnstonCO and AHLA Board Executive Committee member Walter Isenberg about the power of city governments and businesses partnering together to build vibrant downtowns. Mayor Johnston said, "if our hotel industry wins, we win," and I couldn't agree more. This week, the power of the hotel industry has been on display at @thehospshow. Collaboration between public and private leaders has never been more important for the future of our industry.

Hotel franchising is a pathway to the American Dream for so many entrepreneurs. It’s a proven ‘win-win’ business model that enables dynamic partnerships between franchisees and franchisors. Today, the American Franchise Act was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. This critical legislation amends the Fair Labor Standards Act and the National Labor Relations Act which, since 2015, has left franchisors and franchisees in a perpetual state of uncertainty. The AFA brings much needed clarity for the protection of workers and preservation of small business owner autonomy by establishing a joint employer standard that will allow franchising to continue to thrive. Thank you to @repkevinhern (R-OK) and @RepDonDavis (D-NC) for recognizing that franchising is the backbone of this country and we urge Congress to take swift action on passage of this critical legislation. @SaveLocalBiz

One of my favorite things is recognizing the stars on our team. This week at our spring retreat we honored Kimberly Guy, Sarah Hutchinson, Gary Gibson, Haleigh Hildebrand, Emily Wilson and missing from the photo Beth Hartgen and John Jarrard who each received @AHLA's Above and Beyond Award. They make our team stronger and all of us better. We are so proud of them.
