Tens of thousands of cornflowers in a field in Wicken. Research shows that the sight of them will help you recover from sources of stress more quickly & boost dopamine release in your brain, lifting your mood…in case you need it just now:

So I went to see Spike Milligan's gravestone recently, to see for myself the "I told you I was ill" epitaph. Bright sunny day, slightly faded inscription, couldn't see it. Walked away somewhat disgruntled, another bloody urban myth I thought. 5 minutes later had a thought, had to walk back again, fool, there it was "Dúirt mé leat go mé breoite," which of course is Irish for "I told you I was ill. Who knew.

@MadameGilflurt I have a bit of a ‘thing’ for him. Wasn’t he stunning? This is his Sydney Carton in ‘The Only Way’. There was a film of his performance but I think it’s lost .

@Jan_Leeming No, not at all (not that I’m young!). The general standard of literacy amongst BBC newsreaders and reporters has declined. I don’t expect RP but I do expect knowledge and understanding of the words used. It’s important when communicating world events.

Am I just showing my age being so picky but surely a National newsreader should be aware of correct pronunciation. Just heard 'Grievious' twice from an ITV newsreader. The word is Grievous. The other error is Mischievious - it's Mischievous - 3 syllables not 4.🥲🥲

@KirstieMAllsopp Standard brainless belligerent response to anyone expressing a negative opinion about a service. What concerns me is that flying is cheaper than train. Environment-wise, flying short haul is horrendous. But people do it because they have experiences like the one you describe.

I really love this autochrome portrait of two Afghan men, photographed by Stéphane Passet in Peshawar (now in present-day Pakistan), in January 1914. I'm sure they felt a million dollars in their embroidered bling. It is original colour from 111-years-ago, not colourised.

The citrus zing of 1910: I have cleaned-up this striking autochrome study by Thomas Shields Clarke, taken at his home Fernbrook in Lenox, Massachusetts, 115 years ago. It is original colour, not colourised.

Goodnight from Beth Brooks, collecting bog moss by full moon to staunch the wounds Marlow’s annual folk football game alwaysbrings. Goodnight from Kristen Salter, wondering what the Drowned Dead count to send them to sleep in absence of submerged sheep. Goodnight from Hookland.

He died unknown, uncelebrated. Now he’s recognized as one of the most innovative and daring poets in all of English literature. On this day in 1889, Gerard Manley Hopkins died at 44. Here are five of his poems you *must* know: 5. Pied Beauty

No scones for Anne Boleyn on July 29th 1533. Just plain clotted cream and sugar! Feels like nutella without the toast 😉

Taken exactly 97 years ago this month - in June 1928 - this beautiful autochrome study of a German garden in Baden is a wondrous riot of colour. I just love the 'twenties outfit with cloche hat and aqua marine scarf! It is all original colour, not colourised. 😍
