One of the biggest lies we're told as students is: "Finish studying... then life begins." I'm starting to think it's the opposite. Life is happening while we're studying. The habits we build now... The discipline we develop... The way we think... The way we communicate... The way we treat people... That's the real education. A degree may get you your first opportunity. Your habits decide everything that comes after. That's one of the reasons I started Project ICON. Not to complete a challenge. To become the kind of professional I want to be five years from now.

what's that one book everyone loves but you didn't like at all?

I think a big part of the problem lies within our own profession. Nobody walks into a doctor's clinic and says, "woh saamne wale ₹500 kam le rahe hain, aap bhi utne mein kar do." But many CAs themselves tell clients, "Main usse kam mein kar dunga. File mujhe de dijiye." The moment we do that, we stop selling expertise and start selling the lowest price. Then clients stop asking Who is the better CA and start asking, "Kaun sasta karega?" A good CA can save a client lakhs or even crores through the right advice, yet many of us hesitate to charge even a consultation fee. The race to the bottom didn't start with clients. Somewhere along the way, we started it ourselves.

CAs are the most under confident professionals in India. How do you justify charging a ₹2500 annual flat fee while giving out year round, on demand business and tax advice over Call and WhatsApp any time of the day? A doctor takes ₹1000 per visit. A lawyer won't even give an opinion without a fee. Yet CAs give away premium consulting for free just to keep a client. Why can't CAs charge consultation fees? Who exactly is stopping you?

Every notice has two deadlines. The statutory one. And the day you should actually start working on it. The professionals who confuse the two usually end up working all night.

@vsvicky_ I think the strongest moats today aren't products. They're distribution + customer habit. That's why companies like Zerodha, Zomato and even Blinkit are harder to disrupt than they appear. People underestimate how sticky habits become.
