She argues that many parents are not setting expectations for learning at home, and that lack of structure carries into school. Instead of teaching, she often feels like she’s managing basic behavior and trying to create a learning environment from scratch. The academic data reflects the problem. Roughly 34% of U.S. fourth graders read below basic levels, and math performance shows similar strain—about a quarter to a third of students perform below basic proficiency in math, depending on the assessment. When large numbers of students fall behind in both reading and math early on, it becomes harder for them to catch up later, putting long-term academic outcomes at risk.

Respectfully, Senator Sullivan, we are less than 4 years away from 2030. The internet went mainstream in the late 1990s. This should have been done at least a decade ago. Alaska is so far behind in tech infrastructure and innovation that it’s unlikely we’ll ever catch up at the glacial rate things move up here. It’s a national embarrassment. @thatsKAIZEN I'm sorry Kaizen, we have been playing nice way too long. We need to show our strength and our capabilities so that these rogue nations will not screw with us anymore. He said it very clearly and meant what he said, and was willing to back it up with action.

I’m aware it might just be a negotiating tactic. I’m aware that he might mean civilian infrastructure when he says civilization. And none of those make what he said acceptable. Targeting a civilization is not a norm that should be set.

This is an insane thing to say. The difference between good guys and bad guys is not who is willing to use violence, but on whom, and when. When we threaten to kill civilizations, we start down the road to becoming no better than terrorists who target civilians.

The biggest failure as I see it in Alaska has been our own government politicians wasting money on one boondoggle after another. Alaska needs young entrepreneurs to build a future. Not government.
