Can you imagine working hard your entire life, completing medical school, taking > 200K in debt & not being able to get a spot in a REQUIRED apprenticeship for licensure & practice because there are NOT enough residency spots for # of medical students in the US? This isn't right.

@Ada_m_2012 That’s the question every year. We as an organization don’t yet have the power to make changes, we can educate. But @acgme @AAMCtoday and @CMSGov have that power. When will they finally increase residency spots? Or at least support state limited licensure legislations?

@ASP__org So what's gonna be done about it? We also go unmatched because several programs accept candidates through connections. Not good for the healthcare system. We should actually talk about this.

@awsumpowers I actually find it sad that it’s only like this during #Match2024 Medicine should be united ALL the time. It can’t just be like “oh dang so many #unmatched, oh well see you next year” Just proves things are bad and no one is doing anything to fix the root of the problems.

When are doctors allowed to quit their jobs to try something new? A. Whenever they want to. B. When the stress of a toxic job affects their health. C. When they realize their identity as physicians doesn’t have to be tied to full-time, clinical medicine. D. All of the above.

@doclauravater When I wrote an article for @Medscape on why I chose to leave clinical medicine behind, I got some nasty comments written underneath which so perfectly defined the toxic nature of our profession. Medicine thinks we should “tough it out”, regardless of how abusive the system gets.

Didn’t match? DM us and let’s get to work to fix a system that is happy to throw overboard roughly the same number of doctors year to among other things, maximize profits. You went to a fine institution, graduated in good standing, you’re not the problem. Time to fight back!
