ATF is proposing a new streamlined process for converting temporarily imported firearms to permanent import status. Importers will be able to submit an ATF Form 6 application when the temporary authorization expires, instead of being forced to re-export, destroy, or permanently reimport the firearm. Firearms traffickers fuel violent crime. A Rochester man who illegally purchased firearms in Pennsylvania and trafficked them into New York was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison. Great work by ATF NY Rochester Violent Crime Task Force, RPD & USAO WDNY. justice.gov/usao-wdny/pr/r…

Last month, 21 year-old Connor Aguayo and 20 year-old Eligha Buckner Lopez were sentenced to 15 years in prison and 30 years in prison, respectively, for their involvement in the murder of 31 year-old Longview resident Cody Tamayo. The success of this Washington state case relied heavily on the discovery of the murder weapon, a firearm that likely would have never been found had it not been for ATF K-9 Moby's assistance.

Last week, ATF and Salem PD seized a cache of firearms and drugs following the arrest of Michael Brasi in connection with a domestic stalking incident. Search warrants were served at multiple locations associated with Brasi. Seized items included several firearms, firearm frames/receivers, suppressors, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Brasi is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms.

Our deep sympathies are with @USMarshalsHQ and the family and friends of Deputy U.S. Marshal Michael Andrew "Drew" Hanson, who was shot and killed while serving an arrest warrant in Louisiana. Deputy Marshal Hanson served with the Marshals Service for six years and is survived by his wife and two children. #LODD #EOW

ATF is proposing to clarify that “training rounds,” including inert, marking, and simulated-projectile products used for training, do not meet the statutory definition of “ammunition” under the Gun Control Act. These items are therefore not regulated under the GCA or Arms Export Control Act provided the round is not for a firearm.
