@PeterLBrandt An argument could be based that Stan was an active macro trader and not a long-term investor. There is no @ptj_official on the list. And it covers investors only in the US? Anyone ever heard of Rakesh Jhunjhunwala?

When I saw Kathie Wood and did not see see Stan Druckenmiller I immediately rejected the list as uninspired

@RichardMoglen I believe reading and learning should be a core part of the life and not treated as a hobby/passion. It should be as important as breathing air.

It took $SMH almost 15 years to go up $150 between 2008 and 2022. $SMH has moved up that same $150 in the last month. What are the lessons? -Long-term compounding is powerful. -The ability to time breakouts is unfathomably powerful.

@HussainDhala @RealSimpleAriel That’s true. Some market conditions do require placing limit orders but when it comes to highly liquid slow moving stocks with tight spreads, I hit the market. Also there is a different fun in seeing the prices flip when you hit it lol…

@ATSadhale @RealSimpleAriel Think about the number of shares you trade in a year . If you're always crossing the spread you are giving up a ton of money.. There are situations when hitting market makes sense , but not every time .

I still wont participate in this rally because there is no volume. How do we think those people are doing? 🤣

@RealSimpleAriel Exactly. I don’t remember the last time I placed a limit order. It’s always market orders for me because it is getting absorbed in a second.

@TheOneLanceB Well I never disagreed on the compounding part. I was quoting the breakout part. Giving this example for catching breakouts was not the best one imo.

Well yea, that’s how stuff going up works lol. Most people understand that the % move is going to be proportionally lower in the above example. Let’s rephrase in %. SMH is up 25% over a month. Now compound that rate over 15 years and you’ll get my point: for a long time, semis didn’t move much. Now they’re moving incredible amounts quickly.

@mmonis I would like to give a different view. Gap ups are great a for intraday trading. The trend is with you and you get to know quickly if the trend is going to continue or reverse. Gives a good risk rewards for longs.

Gap-up creates FOMO. I usually avoid or try to find names still at start of the move

It's very hard mixing two different styles. The dynamics of both styles are radically different and requires a mental fortitude of a whole different level. I personally haven't seen anyone doing both at the same time. But you can see many people doing swing trading and investing at the same time. Day trading is a beast. And umar bhi ho gayi hain...

@ATSadhale I'm actually a swing trader. This whole thing was simply a side project. Tough to do both though. Seems impossible for me personally.

@dayendtrader One of the many reasons I stopped day trading and shifted to swing trading.
