Bad news. One of the best 19c buildings in Toronto - 149 College, by Old City Hall architect E.J. Lennox, 1894 - is now a potential development site.  This means this structure could be reduced to a facade.

"Early in 2023, genomics scientist Kevin McKernan made an accidental discovery. While running an experiment in his Boston lab, McKernan used some vials of mRNA Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccines as controls. He was ‘shocked’ to find that they were allegedly contaminated with tiny fragments of plasmid DNA. McKernan, who has 25 years’ experience in his field, ran the experiment again, confirming that the vials contained up to, in his opinion, 18-70 times more DNA contamination than the legal limits allowed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In particular, McKernan was alarmed to find the presence of an SV40 promoter in the Pfizer vaccine vials. This is a sequence that is, ‘…used to drive DNA into the nucleus, especially in gene therapies,’ McKernan explains. This is something that regulatory agencies around the world have specifically said is not possible with the mRNA vaccines.. ..Now, McKernan, Dr Buckhaults and other scientists are calling for urgent research to test whether the DNA contamination is lingering in the cells of mRNA vaccinated people, and whether the human genome has in fact been altered by mRNA Covid vaccines."

An informed public is the foundation of a functioning democracy. My tweets have gotten longer as the #Greenbelt scandal has come to light, mostly because there is so much to talk about. But also because I have always seen this platform, even in its changing form, as a mechanism to provide a window into good urbanism, municipal policy and governance, and the foundations of a liveable future (yes all of that usually leads to a lot of tweeting about bikes and affordable housing). I’ve spent over 25 years advocating for the greenbelt, involved in research and policy development, and touting it on the world stage as foundational to our sustainable future. As Chief Planner I played a role in expanding it significantly through the inclusion of Urban River Valleys. The Greenbelt has made us the envy of the world. It’s something we’ve gotten right. We’ve linked it to policies focused on building housing in existing built up areas, intensification, transit expansion, access to nature, a safe and sustainable food and water supply, and creating complete communities. The idea that a reckless, self-interested government can destroy it in a term or two is beyond comprehension to me. That they have done this using “deception” - the Integrity Commissioners words, is beyond the pale. That they have hid behind our truly devastating housing crisis, despite the Auditor General making it clear that “a shortage of land is not driving the housing crisis” is also beyond the pale. But this is happening. And we need to get real about the fact that it is happening. Because the damage to our farmland, our regional centres, the impact on our commutes as a result of another layer of regional sprawl, and the distraction from building housing that we desperately need - it might just take us to our breaking point.

Zelensky spoke at the Allen & Company conference yesterday. The hardnosed corporate knife-fighters clapped like seals and swooned like besotted schoolgirls just like they once did for Anthony Fauci.

Today, the United States brought down China’s high-altitude surveillance balloon that violated American and Canadian airspace and international law. Canada strongly supports this action – we’ll keep working together, including through @NORADCommand, on our security and defence.
Anita Anand@AnitaAnandMP

The bi-national @NORADCommand has been tracking and analyzing the trajectory and actions of the balloon – and this Canada-U.S. cooperation ensures the security and defence of North American air sovereignty. Today and always, we thank our people in uniform for having the watch.

@AirCanada First AC8093 on 3rd delayed 4 times before being cancelled. Rebooked next day on AC8481 on 4th. Then AC8481 cancelled and rebooked on the Feb 5th. Lots of space another flight on Feb 4th. Why can’t you put me on an earlier flight? What’s the point of being 50K?!!

We are now in a position to evaluate the impact of Covid vaccines. Overall, I believe they were a success, actually well beyond what most informed people probably anticipated in 2020. 1/ twitter.com/BallouxFrancoi…
Prof Francois Balloux@BallouxFrancois

We are in a slightly better position with #COVID19 as vaccines are concerned, relative to past influenza pandemics. There is a real opportunity to keep mortality down, at least in rich countries, by focusing vaccination efforts towards some of the most 'at risk' in society. 7/

Why would someone borrow $100 million at 21% interest to buy land that you could not build on ? Because weeks later they could. It’s not Doug Ford’s greenbelt to give away to his friends. It’s the people’s greenbelt. Hands off @fordnation

There is a SARS-CoV-2 wave underway in many countries. Current cases are made up of a mix of Omicron BA.2.x, BA.4 and BA.5 strains. All those lineages are fairly closely related and all derive from BA.2 (pink below), which caused the previous wave. academic.oup.com/ooim/article/3… 1/
