@oliviajune82 I want to see Plato handle a group of high school students who prefer to be on their phones or rough housing. Or better yet, have student do a chem lab with acids and bases!

@nickimoraa Pay me a wage that allows for dry cleaning g expenses like teachers were when you were a kid. Over 30 years, I’ve NEVER received a pay raise equal to let alone over the rate of inflation. I *should* be earning over $130k with my experience and education, like my non-ed peers.

When did teacher’s attire take a turn? Teachers today dress like they are all teaching PE. Growing up all my teachers wore heels, dresses, slacks, dress shirts, hair was done. They looked put together. Teachers today look like they don’t care. the way you show up contributes to the environment you work in. this may be one of the factors into why kids behave the way they do. take the profession seriously so the kids can take you seriously

Admit it: Your kid mispronounced a word three years ago and now the whole family says it that way. What's the word in your house? (We still say 'pasketti' and I’m not stopping anytime soon.)

@educator4ever36 He was bullied for being smart and he was the smallest in the class. Teacher and principal did nothing. We changed schools the next year.

@educator4ever36 Smart December kid. We opted for 5 turning 6 for kinder. He ended up testing at 3rd/4th as a first grader so the school mid-year promoted him to 2nd and added Gifted/Talented class. New teacher was mad and tried to penalize him for too few AR points (in in the grade for 9wks).

To my Coach friends - would you ever recommend a parent hold their child back from starting kindergarten or delaying 9th grade solely for an edge up on athletics?

@FixingEducation Many actually delay kindergarten or first grade to have this advantage without the stigma of being held back later on.

My wife and I were talking the other day about potential career options for my 15 yrs old daughter who really struggles in school and is likely not college bound/material. For guys it’s easy… Don’t want to go to college, pick a trade or figure something else out such as a police officer, firefighter etc. It’s not as easy for girls. I think she would do well in sales since she is attractive, has the personality and is extremely social (spends hours everyday talking on the phone to all her friends). For parents with daughters who aren’t on the college path…what are some real, high-income career options you’ve seen work?

@ProsecutorsPod I made a plug-in LED nightlight in 1983 shop class. It has a resistor with plug surrounded by resin. It still works. Planned obsolescence is in full force.

@FixingEducation Dept Heads had two planning periods, one personal other for observations, paperwork, meetings, coaching, etc plus a small stipend. They took the second one away to reduce administrative costs. We still have to complete all tasks for the small stipend.

Since 2000, schools have hired more administrators & coordinators to handle compliance, not more teachers. • IEPs and special ed mandates • Federal accountability laws • Endless data, testing, and reporting Result: More responsibilities, less focus on the classroom.

There is an innate selfishness in boomers who don’t have children I have 2 visiting me right now. They are from Man’s side of the family. The amount they expect to do every day in environments not conducive to child schedules or convenience for parents has got me so worn down Prior to this, every time they have visited, Man continues working, maybe taking a couple days off & I am left to chauffeur & host them every day The rest of my household has always been thoroughly enamored by them so I have grit my teeth & committed to making the best of it. I do love & appreciate them, they are wonderful people, but hosting them while managing my kids is simply too much for me So this time when I found out they were visiting for 12 days I put my foot down & said he must take the week off work if he wanted them to visit. I simply refused to host them on my own We are on day 6 & this afternoon Man pulled me aside & remarked at how it seems one of them specifically is actually quite selfish & it starts to feel like we are expected to be supporting act in a one man show while managing our children in inconvenient & uncomfortable circumstances & I was like “THANK YOU FOR FINALLY REALIZING THIS” But even with him around to help everyone still relies on me for all plans, directions, reservations, destination & restaurant choices, meal planning, etc. Like when something goes wrong everyone is coming to me to fix it And one of the visitors REFUSES to do anything inside. No museums, malls, movies. Nothing corporate like zoos, aquariums or theme parks. Everything is expected to be outside, beach days, hiking, boats I am fried, tired, my kids haven’t gone to bed before 10pm in a week. I just got my period and I am supposed to get up early tomorrow to herd the boomers & both kids to an island for a 5 hour beach day, no strollers or wagons allowed YOU GUYS I CANT DO THIS, EVEN WITH HIS HELP

@TolentinoTeach One teacher teaches the same curriculum with the same activities- and get completely different results. It’s the students who do the learning.

Two teachers can teach the same curriculum with the same activities—and get completely different results. Because in the end, it’s the teacher who brings the curriculum to life. There’s no way around that.

Because of AI, English teachers must make writing assignments in-class and schedule one-to-one instruction in office hours, which means many more English teachers must be hired.

@TheWapplehouse I waited 2 hours for an ambulance, then 2 more in the ER hallway for a burst and bleeding ovarian cyst. The OBGYN on call changed pager services and didn’t notify the hospital. All charges were removed because I was nice. Too much pain killer to care about much.

Since COVID, I’ve seen a sharp rise in students struggling with foundational school skills: -Legible handwriting -Bringing basic supplies -Following verbal directions -Spelling & punctuation -Reading & writing stamina Before we push for “rigor,” we need to rebuild the basics of learning.

Before becoming a politician, one should complete a mandatory 1.5 years of social service, divided into three-month periods: — in nursing care — in a daycare center — in a school — in a medium-sized company — in retail — on a farm All unpaid and voluntary, of course.
