@IterIntellectus Great pro-abortion argument tbh. "Hey, this technology makes it so that you have greater autonomy over your own life. That's why people want it." Duh, and/or hello?

the reason abortion is the most important issue for women is that it's the last remaining irreversibility in modern life nothing to do with "bodily autonomy" or "rights", just the simple fact that you can't undo it, and we've lost the capacity to accept that men can walk away. sure, legally and financially liable, maybe, but not physically abortion is the only exit from the one consequence that cannot be escaped otherwise anyone with a functioning brain knows it has nothing to do with "choice", you choose to have sex, you accept the consequences. but we can't accept consequences anymore this is why it's politically sacred, because everything else already has an exit. marriage used to have permanence, an oath before God with no reversal, divorce made it provisional. college became four years of delayed adulthood, a holding pattern before real decisions. careers can pivot, cities change, identities reinvent we systematically removed every forcing function for commitment. burned no boats. kept every option open pregnancy is the last thing left that doesn't care about your preferences

You are a taker, not a maker. All you’ve done your whole life is take from the makers of the world. The zero-sum mindset you have is at the root of so much evil. Once you realize that civilization is not zero-sum and that it is about making far more than one consumes, then it becomes obvious that the path to prosperity for all is just let the makers make. Regarding Tesla, the reality is that I have been given nothing. However, if I lead Tesla to become the most valuable company in the world by far and it stays that way for 5 years, shareholders voted to award me 12% of what is built. Anyone who wants to come along for the ride can buy Tesla stock. If Tesla “merely” becomes a $1.999 trillion dollar company, I get nothing. This is a great deal for shareholders, which is why they voted so overwhelmingly to approve this, for which I am immensely grateful. And they did so by a margin far more than you won your political seat.

You know GDP per capita does not correlate with quality of life when a place like this is poorer than every US state.

@shaunmmaguire Read "The Ominous Parallels" by Leonard Peikoff, it's dense philosophy but shockingly prescient. Understanding the roots of this might be the only way we can stop it.

@zachweinberg "Feel good" policies. Ask why it makes socialists feel good to weaken the talented and promising. Ideas like egalitarian education are driven by spiteful envy, not naive idealism.

8 billion people and still a lot to create. It’s crazy to me that I’m the first space enthousiaste to build a website to create customizable rocket launch infographics. People made posters, people built launch data APIs, but no one took the time to combine both.
kache@yacineMTB

it's actually so simple just build something that wouldn't have ever existed, that no one thought to do. just do the thing that everyone needs but is impossible to do. like actually just do it the crazy part is that it isn't even that hard

If he had outsourced it to a random PR team: PELENNOR FIELDS, Third Age 3019 — Today we are thrilled to share that we are deepening our partnership with Gondor. Our team of talented Rohirrim is excited to support Gondor’s inspiring mission through close collaborative efforts and a diverse variety of weaponry. Théoden, King of Rohan, said, “This partnership is a meaningful step forward in our shared commitment to helping make Middle Earth a better place. We look forward to sharing future updates as we ride to ruin.” ###

@Nikos_17 Guessing: it offers some narrowly good advice. If you're doing something hard, push through. If something hurts, grit your teeth and keep going. In the short-term, these are handy maxims, but aren't good moral principles. Particularly unhelpful if you're being sacrificed.

Reading back-to-back Ryan Holiday’s books on the stoic virtues. I quite enjoy them - philosophical objections aside. But I wonder: why has Stoicism had a wider cultural appeal than Objectivism? Is it one of the following? 1) Stoicism is more conventional (still preaches “altruism” etc) and easy to digest by more people? 2) Stoicism is better communicated / has more charismatic spokesmen? 3) Something else I’m missing? Curious what you people think...

@billybinion Commies want to destroy the billionaires because they hate that someone has been more creative and successful than them. It's not that they want to live off of the billionaires' resources. They want to billionaires to die because commies envy success.

Fun fact: If you taxed every U.S. billionaire into oblivion—wiped out their entire net worths—you could fund the federal government for…less than a year. And like it or not, many of them built things that vastly improved people’s lives.
Billy Binion@billybinion

I know it’s trendy to hate billionaires, but most didn’t get rich by accident. Jeff Bezos made goods cheaper & quickly accessible. Bill Gates put computers in homes. Sergey Brin gave the world a search engine that works. I could go on. So yes…they should exist.
