@carmenjoyimes @coramdeo1 @philvischer Interestingly, it doesn’t appear that @philvischer offered any exegesis in his initial post. He simply quoted scripture and everyone reacted through a political paradigm. That might be the bigger concern.

@coramdeo1 @philvischer Actually, it looks to me like Phil Vischer is on to something. God's people are called to love our neighbor as ourselves, EVEN WHEN they have come from somewhere else. Our story of redemption should motivate compassionate treatment of others. Period.

@carmenjoyimes Thank you. I was aware of Genesis 46 but was ignorant of the reverence that Egyptians had for sheep. Found this absolutely intriguing and will require further study. To the books!

@AaronFraleyOSC It's probably multivalent. I think it foreshadows substitutionary sacrifice, but there is also the possibility that it co-opts an Egyptian symbol (painting doors red to ward off evil).

@carmenjoyimes @CTmagazine I always find it interesting when biblical characters are reduced to one choice or decision. Is David a man after Yahweh's heart or a murderer? Both. Loved reading a more nuanced perspective on Eve.

When Jesus began his ministry, it was dated with reference to the reigns of Roman emperors (“in the 15th year of Tiberius…”).
We now date the reigns of those emperors with reference to the ministry—more particularly the birth—of Jesus (e.g., Tiberius reigned from AD 14…).
