@mccormick_ted Ah yes, Weber's relatively overlooked 'Science as a Vacation' essay.

@Tablesalt13 The current average mortgage has a rate below that. It is increasing as these renews flow through. If inflation subsides and rate cuts occur, nothing will happen. The question is if discretionary spending will fall before house prices do. No one will give up their house first

How absurd are housing prices at 7% mortgage rates? A top 5% income earning family in Ontario, ($162,000 / yr) CANNOT afford an average apartment condo in the GTA ($737,868) They'd only be approved for a 633k mortgage, and only if they have NO DEBT. #tore

Moving may be a good solution for some people struggling amidst a complete breakdown in housing affordability. Moving is not a viable or desirable policy response for an entire generation. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

@K_elly_B Damn Kelly. I'm sorry. I know you poured everything into running this place. The province has lost an important piece of its history, and, selfishly, a little piece of my childhood has slipped away.

@oneguysstyle @AddleyMa @DKTPH @2closetocall @Billius27 Midway point might include proper case counting and contact tracing, and masking in some indoor public spaces. It's becoming clear that business as usual means the collapse of our health care system. That simply cannot be an option.

@oneguysstyle @AddleyMa @DKTPH @2closetocall @Billius27 I think we need to uncouple the idea that returning some public health measures means back to some god awful lockdown situation. I agree completely, everyone is fatigued. It is also quite though that continual covid infections are proving to be unsustainable.

Although I’ve not had COVID (knock on wood) 1 of the unexpected impacts is that it has purely & thoroughly broken my handwriting. It has exacerbated the urgency of everything & the world (& my brain) will not wait for pretty writing. I am now a scribbler. (Could be age, but nah!)

@oneguysstyle @AddleyMa @DKTPH @2closetocall Except it isn't. I know there is some graph that compares Hong Kong to Sweden and shows similar outcomes despite no mitigations. Neglects testing, ways deaths are counted, and that Hong Kong was wiping the floor with Sweden until it relaxed everything in Spring 2022.

@oneguysstyle @AddleyMa @DKTPH @2closetocall With Omicron, the inflection point where illness results in death is at around 50. @Billius27 demonstrated this. Though if this wasn't true, what's your point? If severe outcomes 'only' impact the sick and old, the rest of us shouldn't do anything to reduce transmission to them?

@AaronJamesHenry @AddleyMa @DKTPH @2closetocall You’re neglecting the significant age and health stratification at play with covid. Very clearly the old and the sick more seriously by orders of magnitude. Thus a “one size fits all” approach to any rule doesn’t fit the actual dynamics of the virus.

@oneguysstyle @AddleyMa @DKTPH @2closetocall A core reason we would not return to masks would be the effectiveness of vaccines, no? If vaccines are enough no need to bother, if they aren't then maybe we need to reintroduce other tools.

@AddleyMa @DKTPH @2closetocall This is what is called an assertion, not an argument. What data and evidence are you relying on? The evidence for masks preventing covid is quite poor.

We are at the 'find out' stage of the pandemic. It's not pretty and it ain't 'mild'. Mask up. N95 or better.
