Trying to be moderate in the hyper sensitive twitter verse. Chill, we are probably more alike than different.

@ronmortgageguy My renewal is Sept 1, currently at 1.99% (lol). Do you forecast higher rates by June? Wondering about running the math on renewing early at 3.9% versus waiting for a possible bump.

@calgarytransit It's obtuse that precisely zero details about the circumstances that impact 10's of thousands of your customers. Benefit of the doubt, do you also not have any info from your team? Are any of the communications team @calgarytransit customers?

@bruce_arthur I expect the same hardline position when former PMJT is awarded the Order of Canada in spite of the countless (3 instances published in your paper, but he lost count so there are more) wearing of blackface. Regardless of what you think, Canada is comprised of many views.

The Conservative push for Don Cherry and the Order of Canada is a politicization of institutions, and it’s no-dummy, know-nothing, argument-starting populism, rooted in false nostalgia. In other words, it’s almost a tribute to Don. thestar.com/sports/nhl/why…

If you're a conservative, part of what that means is wanting to protect and preserve institutions that shape us and make us distinct. The Crown is one of those institutions. Embracing a left wing anti colonial, rip everything down view is the opposite of that.

“This is not your land, you are not our King. Give us our land back.” One brave woman told King Charles exactly what millions feel. End the colonial farce. x.com/i/status/20248…

I have a serious question. Explain it to me like I’m 5. The U.S. Navy isn’t able to eliminate Iran’s ability to complete blockade a 10 mile wide strait? You’re telling me that anybody with access to a couple hundred unmanned drones and a few dozen sea mines can outmatch the entire US Navy?

@ABDanielleSmith 1. No, do not change the time - it's another distraction to dilute and divide voters and govt from real priorities. 2. If the whiners force the issue it must be permanent standard time over permanent DST.

I agree with @MichelleRempel that @LenaMetlegeDiab has shown a worrying lack of competence as Canada’s immigration minister, and she should be fired. Given how poorly the Conservatives are polling, here’s my admittedly unpopular take: Michelle should cross the floor and take on the immigration portfolio. The system is under real strain and needs serious fixing. It’s hard to think of anyone better suited, someone who not only understands the complexities, but has been working on them for years. I'm convinced that the system has a real chance of improving under her.
Michelle Rempel Garner@MichelleRempel

You're going to see this story a lot today. The line the journo didn't include from me is this....Lena was selected by Carney and left to clean up a mess made by men like Sean Fraser, who he failed upwards into Justice. That said, Lena isn't making the grade. (Link in reply)

@wealthmoose What taxed specifically? I'm team blur but @RodAVanier is partly correct insofar that consumption taxes are paid once and aren't part of the variable costs through the supply chain.

@CalgaryPolice appreciate the need to use 7th Ave as an emergency corridor but a patrol car is blocking the city hall lrt tracks. It's rush hour and no trains gave moved for 12 minutes. Sense of urgency is required.

@CanadianPolling Is that a chortle? The difference is 3% and two provinces is not "eastern Canada". ON, PQ, NB, NS, PEI, NFLD-LAB = 232 ridings (69%). ~67% of the population. ON & eastern Canada are only 63% of CDM GDP.... There is room for debate before arrogance.

@ShaziGoalie Mr, I'm 46. 2014 levels are my first home at 34 - but I'm still 46 and the next generation is already a few rungs up the ladder. Nobody is sure how it all will work out but a high/low tide has the same effect on all ships.

@JohnThomsonSK We are part of the Brittish Empire that dominated the North American Continent a century and a half ago. Like many prosperous nations, we have lost our resolve and become too comfortable, avoid difficult conversations and hard choices. We should become a serious country first.

I think Canada's two biggest issues are; the lack of coherent national identity, and a lack of common purpose. Right now whenever something in the world makes waves, Canada pitches wildly on the peaks and wallows in the troughs like a ship that's lost its rudder. We've got nothing to guide us through the storms, and it's why many Canadians have lost hope/faith/pride in our country. They're sick of being stuck below decks getting battered about. They feel helpless, seemingly unable to direct the course of the country. Their only certainties are that they will work like dogs to pay exorbitant taxes, in return for poor govt services, while their leaders amass more national debt that they'll be expected to pay off. Lately there's been push to say that being the opposite of Americans or anti-American is who we are, and that should be our purpose and identity. Rally around the flag in a show of defiance to the USA and President Trump. Sure, there is purpose in that, but that's not an identity, and if it is, then it's a poor one at best. It'll never be enough to drive a modern unity renaissance across our country. You have to want to BE Canadian, and BELIEVE in what it is we're doing. Simply not being American won't cut it. The challenge is that forging a true Canadian identity and common sense of purpose, has to be strong enough to overcome provincial affiliations, not just external pressures. These regional bonds are so strong that they often result hostility between partners within our federation. Interprovincial trade barriers are just one manifestation of this. Another significant challenge is the massive influx of immigrants to Canada over the past ten years who were not encouraged to fully adopt Canadian cultural norms as part of their integration into our society. The resulting balkanization of our communities are adding another significant layer of complexity to the problem. If these observation are accurate (and I'm not entirely out to lunch), what are the answer to these questions. Who are we? What's our purpose? What should our leaders do about it?
