@avidfilm Chris Columbus's style matched the first 2 adaptations. His style would not have matched the darkness that followed. They're probably the closest adaptations to the books, but i still think Prisoner of Azkaban was the best directed

The Chris Columbus movies are the best by far. They have a magical and slightly Hammer Horror film style that was never paralleled by any of the following films. Chris Columbus is very under appreciated as a visual filmmaker, and he hasn’t accomplished as much as he could have.

@avidfilm Awful take. Columbus has no imagination at all, and he set a lot of things in stone in the most boring possible way. For starters, he cast Dumbledore as if he were Gandalf, because Gandalf is all he could imagine.

It’s like this. When they did a WITCH MOUNTAIN update movie you were like ‘Huh? Oh yeah..Witch…Mountain’ & perhaps hazy memories of the 70s originals came flooding back. Do those movies hold up? No, not as anything other than nostalgia junk-food. Objectively they were the most generic of 70s-Disney slop. So it could *make sense* to revisit them! They could update the effects, have a new story, and there was even a new angle: ‘Hey this one has The Rock, that’s kind of weird!’ Now don’t get me wrong, was the movie any good? I mean, no. But at least you could see it wasn’t a totally inexplicable & redundant exercise. With Harry Potter though, there’s no new story and there’s nothing to ‘update’. In fact the production and cinematography looks *worse*, the usual grimdark muted-color Netflix slop. The *only* ‘angle’ to even hold onto are the couple of race-swapped casting choices. And instead of The Rock we get…John Lithgow. It’s all so tiresome.jpg

Getting to a final isn’t an achievement and getting into a semi final is definitely not an achievement specially when you look at the games that got him there!

So I heard LMFAO@U Rolls-Royce is considering moving production of its next-generation narrow-body jet engine program (potentially worth £1.6 trillion globally and supporting up to 40,000 jobs in the supply chain) to the United States (or Germany) instead of keeping it in the UK. The main reasons cited are high energy costs in the UK, along with a lack of sufficient government financial support/subsidies. The US and Germany offer cheaper energy and already have Rolls-Royce manufacturing sites.
