@MikeA_NorfolkON Let’s put paid parking in all downtowns then. I couldn’t care less about Port Stanley. I don’t represent Port Stanley, it’s not in Norfolk, and it’s not the same set of challenges.

The headline could have just as easily read "Businesses in Port Dover losing customers over paid parking" or "Paid parking woes continue to affect Port Dover's downtown." "Paid parking persists in spite of resident, business, Board of Trade, and tourist opposition" also works.

Dumb. The rainbow crosswalk in Port Dover goes in next week. Thank you again to everyone who contributed to this Main Street enhancement.

@Happyda73176532 @AmyForTheFolk @NorfolkCountyCA I don’t know. The New Horizons program isn’t open right now. The county could do one, but there might be a greater need than this. It would be up to a department to create a program it could deliver with this funding. In this case probably recreation.

Thank you @jpantonacci for the follow up story, and for providing a platform that shares the facts. There are an awful lot of rumours and uninformed opinions circulating about the Port Dover beach, and I appreciate @TheSpec helping us cut through the nonsense.

So, let's talk about the Drag Show Debate. First, I understand why parents and the government would not want children to see a sexually explicit show of any kind, whether it's straight, gay, trans, etc. I think almost the entire country would agree on this. Now, here is what the problem can be: Most of these laws cite terms that are vague and overly broad, and can mean different things to different people. For example, the Tennessee law states that shows featuring "male or female impersonators" who perform in a way that is "harmful to minors" should be shielded from the public's view. On the face of it, this seems reasonable, right? If something is harmful to a child, then of course, it should not be seen by them. I think we all agree there as well. But the problem is that "harmful to minors" is incredibly broad and undefined. Is a drag queen by themselves "harmful to a minor"? I'm sure some Americans will argue that. What about a drag queen in a skimpy bikini? I'm guessing even more Americans, particularly on the conservative side, would say "yes." How about Drag Queens playing with sex toys and grinding on each other in bikinis? My guess is that the vast majority of Americans would say that this is "harmful to minors." Because of the vagueness of the law, not only is there a likelihood of discrimination, but also a chilling effect for all drag shows, effectively eliminating them. Our politicians, instead of attacking each other and using rare extreme situations to paint the other side as extreme or deviant or even pedophiles, need to work together to come up with common-sense, clearly defined, and precise laws. There is no black and white.  There are an infinite number of shades of grey.  Politicians need to understand that.

@inportdover @MAF__69 @Simcoe_Reformer @NorfolkCountyCA My suggestion to everyone is to take rumours with a grain of salt (or sand, I guess in this case). This issue is a matter of safety and respect. The owners have not asked for any payment. Anyone claiming otherwise is either incorrect or lying.
