@HGambit56190 @Ruesavatar Some bullshit that could also be used to describe millions of other women, but she can't even articulate that because she lacks self awareness.
All the reasons she listed are deeply descriptive of her as an individual, but she's mad that men and women have different framings.

I asked my ex once what he likes about me. Pretty face, nice body and hair, dresses well, excellent interior design taste, good cook/housekeeper, good mother, and excellent gift giver.
Nothing at all about me as a person, just appearances and what I do for others.
He was never in love with ME.
I wish I had realized a lot sooner.

@QwertyRespecter @Catholicizm1 @johnkloess Hunger and falling blood glucose reliably increases aggression and hostility, raises negative affect, and lowers self-control capacity. It's a physiological reality, not a spiritual deficiency. It would be manifestly better for most trads to pray more and mortify less.
English

@Addison95813086 @Catholicizm1 @johnkloess Yes, if your fasting practices lead you to sin obvs. you should cut it out. But it is better then to ask the question “why am I unable to abstain from food for one day without sin, and how can I grow in my detachment from worldly goods?”
Not merely shrug it off.
English

Not just no meat today. It’s a day of mandatory fasting. You’re allowed 1 meal if you’re weak.

Remember no meat today
English

@Catholicizm1 @johnkloess Better to eat the meal than be an insufferable crank all day because you're starving
English

@johnkloess Stop thinking about what the church allows and instead think about what you’re capable of. You don’t need that 1 meal. Tough it out. You won’t die.
English

@SamaHoole I don't disagree with the gist of your post, but a typical peasant would've eaten plenty of dairy, cheese, eggs, and fish.

Robert is thirty-six years old. In 1247, this is not young. Robert knows this. His knees know this. His back has known this since approximately 1239.
Robert lives in a village in Worcestershire with his wife Agnes, three surviving children, and two chickens he is not allowed to eat because the chickens produce eggs and the eggs matter more than the chickens.
Today is a Tuesday in March. Robert will describe it as a Tuesday in March. The concept of a 'week' as a unit of leisure is not yet something Robert has access to.
5:00am - Up. Pottage on the fire. The pottage is oats, leeks, and some dried parsnip from the autumn store. There is a small piece of salted pork in it, approximately the size of Robert's thumb. It is mostly flavouring. Robert eats around it for as long as possible, then eats it, then thinks about it for the rest of the morning.
6:00am - Field. Robert works the lord's strip first, then his own. The ground is still cold. His boots have a hole. He has had the hole since October. He has packed it with rags. The rags are wet. They will remain wet until June.
Robert is technically eating a plant-based diet. He is not doing this by choice. He is doing this because meat belongs to the lord, the deer belong to the king's forest, and the last man in this village who was caught with an unlicensed rabbit spent a period in the stocks that his family still doesn't fully discuss.
10:00am - Brief rest. Rye bread, hard. A small onion. Robert thinks about the pig that was slaughtered in November. He thinks about this often. The memory of fat is a specific and enduring thing when you don't have much of it.
1:00pm - Back to the field. Robert's average daily calorie intake is somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 calories, the majority from grain. He is doing agricultural labour that modern exercise scientists would classify as extremely high intensity. He is, measurably, running on insufficient fuel. He is aware of this in the way that you are aware of things that cannot be changed: completely, and without drama.
4:00pm - Home. Agnes has made more pottage. It is similar to this morning's pottage. Robert eats it. Robert's teeth hurt. They have hurt for two years. There is no dentist. There is a barber-surgeon in the market town seven miles away. Robert cannot afford the barber-surgeon and cannot take the day from the fields. His teeth continue to hurt.
7:00pm - Sleep. Robert will be awake again at five. He is thirty-six. He will probably not see forty. The leading cause of death for men in his position is a combination of infection, injury, and the slow arithmetic of malnutrition across a lifetime.
Somewhere, eight hundred years from now, someone will describe Robert's diet as "ancestral," "plant-forward," and "aligned with the earth."
Robert would have a great deal to say about this.
Robert does not have the energy.

@BayAreaNewLibs @shagbark_hick The only hopeless battle is the homosexual fight against nature.
The liberal thinks we've arrived at the end of history, but we are merely the inhabitants of a peculiar blip. An aberration. A distortion of reality that is not civilizationally teneble.
English

@Addison95813086 @shagbark_hick I suppose it's better for illiberal Christians to fight a hopeless battle than one they could actually win.
English

I've said it before:
If Dems gave up their abhorrent and morally indefensible attachment to abortion and homosexuality, I'd likely be a normal Democrat.
I like unions, environmental protections, tastefully unkempt lawns, Cab Franc, oysters, train transit.. etc. But I'm just not ever going to go the other way on the teachings of the Church, ever.
If that puts me in a tense, reluctant union with the mostly wretched and uncivilized bunch that pass for "conservatives" these days, so be it, I guess. (and in a contest between the soda-swilling MAGA "People of Wal-Mart" or the botoxed suburbanite variety of conservative, flip a coin, I fit in with neither type).
Lord knows if I try to go where the liberals are at, of course I'll relish the great bulk of how they live and think -- until I inevitably hear they're "transing" their 3-year-olds and donating to Planned Parenthood.
I dream of the day when "the good life," the civilized life is once again synonymous with the pro-life, pro-family values that built Western Civilization rather than the demonic grostequeries that are now common amongst our liberals.
Until then, I'm destined to be a kind of politically homeless pariah -- Upstate NY's own analogue to Ignatius Reilly. C'est la vie...

@BayAreaNewLibs @shagbark_hick If the gays can toil hundreds of years to have their sodomitical unions recognized by law, we can toil however long it takes to eradicate them.
English

@shagbark_hick Bro homosexuality is a settled issue even among Republicans at this point. Pretty sure it's time to give that one up at least. We're not going to take rights away from millions of people years after they've been recognized.
English

@AtomKMyDudes @djvlad Ah yes, the Renaissance, when we persecuted alchemist and suddenly... humanity's technological capabilities exponentially increased over the next 400 years to the point where we can land men on the moon and split atoms in half.
English

Look at ancient civilizations who built things we still to this day cannot comprehend. Guess what was studied and practiced as an everyday job. Alchemy. Then came the renaissance days when they executed and imprisoned anyone who studied or practiced it. As it was the works of the devil (Witchcraft) they said. Look how things went downhill from there. Essentially a reset imo. Still to this day it is labeled as psuedoscience. We will never learn the full truths of our past without it.
English

Waiting for marriage is stupid.
As a young man I was a Christian and I waited for marriage to have sex.
It was a terrible decision that led to me getting married for the wrong reason - just to have sex.
If we had sex before we got married I am convinced we would never have gotten married because we would have realized it's not worth it.
Instead we went through with it and got divorced 5 years later.
Young men can't make rational decisions when they're sex deprived.

@petem127 @CCrowley100 "We'll never know"
Sure buddy it's a real mystery whether the helpless anglos who invented trains and started the industrial revolution could've ever built a railroad without illerate Chinese peasants
English

@Addison95813086 @CCrowley100 We’ll never know bc all these different people contributed to this country and you can’t go back in time and make your little white paradise. This country is theirs too whether you like it or not weirdo.
English

@petem127 @CCrowley100 America without the Chinese would've still built the railroad. America without blacks would've still industrialized and had great agricultural output. America without founding stock Europeans would've never existed, or worse, would resemble another failing Mestizo LatAm shithole.
English

@CCrowley100 Very convenient to leave out how Chinese immigrants built the entire western section of the transcontinental railroad, or of course how enslaved Americans’ labor was the foundation of industrialization and agricultural wealth, exceeding the value of most industries. Could go on.
English

@PresbyInn Behold the UCC, direct heirs of Puritan America. 100% founding stock congregation. Free of all corrupting popery.
The based and WASP-pilled spiritual center of America.

The correct question here is:
(1) Who shows up for this?
(2) And why bother?
Of course, sin and apostasy are answers to this. But diving into the historical, sociological, and political factors tell you much more.
First, you have to understand how mainline Christianity cast off doctrinal orthodox while maintaining a commitment to strict moral conformity. This began as a result of church membership issues in Early America and the First Great Awakening, which are too complex to get into here. But the result was that 19th century mainliners let go of commitments like the Trinity, the inspiration and authority of Scripture, the Virgin birth, etc, while at the same time insisting that Christianity was a program for individual self-improvement and social uplift. Jesus may not be God, but the Bible has principles that say you should avoid drink and manage your finances well.
This made churchmanship respectable for educated upper middle class and nouveau riche of the Gilded Age, who used churchmanship as a signal of their moral standing as a good person. They could listen to a sermon on why you shouldn't squander your savings on gin and that didn't conflict with what you learned about Hegel at Harvard or Yale. Trinitarian orthodoxy and creeds were for the poors, who may have confessed Jesus is God while having a mild drinking problem or living in a rough neighborhood. The mainline became the church of the respectable people and the theological weakness tied with moral strictness kept out the riff-raff. The Baptists or Wesleyans could have them.
Those respectable churchmen left these communions (UCC, PCUSA, RCA, TEC, UMC, etc) with huge sums of money when they died. That continued into the 70s and 80s when mainline churchmanship began to decline as a common feature of American life.
Go to the 2000s, and the dynamics have shifted. These churches no longer have problems with creedal commitments. You can confess the Virgin birth or the inspiration of Scripture, since these are simply language games in the postmodern world. What they care about is whether you think Christianity prohibits forms of sexual expression or abortion rights. The clergy are still very liberal (as @ryanburge has shown) compared to the laity. But the moral strictness isn't about personal responsibility anymore, it's about whether you buy in to values of toleration and social justice. They are still keeping out riff-raff if they can, but in this case, the riff-raff are the chuds and deplorables.
Fast forward to today, and if you go to a rust belt city on Sunday morning and walk into a mainline church downtown, built in the 1890s in a neo-Gothic style, with a BLM banner out front and 6 Boomers in the pews, that church is a Liturgical NGO or Charitable Trust.
That church sits on a multi-million dollar endowment. They give annually to the homeless shelter (which probably functions as a site for human trafficking, unwittingly), condoms in Africa, and the public library (so it can host drag queen story hour) and have done this now for decades. The clergy function as executive directors of the charitable trust and the 6 boomers in attendance are the board of trustees. They ensure that the money from the endowment keeps flowing to their causes of choice, and there's always one or two classic liberal Democrats who don't love the woke stuff but support it so long as Grandfather's steel mill fortune doesn't get used to buy the pastor an Audi. Aria's purpose, and the purpose of the more egregious clips on Protestia, is to gatekeep the charitable trust from any chuds who may wander in, gain power, and say that the church should recommit to orthopraxy and hold evangelistic meetings.
If you don't believe me, consider the following:
The PC(USA) is the richest denomination per capita in the history of Christendom.

@BowTiedCrow @CostcoCruiser Even if the fire+radiation spare you, the mass starvation that would occur over the next year as the entire US farm to mouth logistics chain is demolished certainly would. Even if you lived on a farm, millions of suburbanites would scour the countryside, desperate for food.
English

@CostcoCruiser Sure, largely people don’t understand radius’s well. Additionally these impacts on the map simulate ground impact not airburst. All strikes would be airburst, which mitigate significant fallout compared to ground impact. Don’t fear nuclear war with a hostile enemy.

This map is fake and nuclear war won’t be this bad. Don’t fall for the deep state psyops

@NaumannBob46915 @ElifNull @NeilShenvi Maybe he does maybe he doesn't, idk and not my business. The point isn't an attack on a habit that he may have, the point is that the spirit of the complaint is misguided.
English

@Addison95813086 @ElifNull @NeilShenvi Weird of you to inject they have a porn habit, do you have proof of such?
English

@ElifNull @NeilShenvi Your comment is just the male version of the coddling you're complaining about on the women's side.
Both are cringe. Whining about "women nagging me for my porn habit" is just cope. The proper response is "Lord have mercy on me a sinner", not more whataboutism.
English

@Addison95813086 @NeilShenvi When you apply the law in one direction it is a punch.
Men know that, and are dealing with Porn. We're reminded all the time.
Women are coddled, and excused.
English

@ElifNull @NeilShenvi This is hardly a punch; it's as factual of a statement as the 10,000 comments by men in the past 24 hours on the consequences of sexual promiscuity for women.
English

@NeilShenvi Punch toward men, nuance toward women.
Expect nothing else from thirdway-Shenvi.

The men, however, have no excuse.
