It's a fun idea, but the product likely wouldn't be the same, particularly on the pitching side.
Routine is such a big thing, and MLB teams don't want pitchers out of their management halfway through a season.

Why do you guys think the Bears want to own their own stadium and increase revenue streams?
They want more free cash. They don't get those same streams as other teams because Chicago Park District owns Soldier Field.

So when you sign a player to a contract extension and you guarantee money to that player, that money has to be immediately available and go in an escrow account. So let's say they give Darnell Wright 4/120 with 80m gtd and next year give Caleb 4/260 with 200m gtd, George McCaskey has to have $80m in liquid cash for Wright and $200m in liquid cash for Caleb. That money goes into an escrow account so the player knows its there and accounted for. That's $280 million in cash that George needs in the next 15 months to pay those two players alone. It 100% impacts things.

Remember: A lakefront stadium relying on $800M in ISFA-issued bonds is a non-starter with Gov. Pritzker and state lawmakers. There's just no support for putting state dollars into the stadium itself. In any case, the Bears have made clear it's either Arlington Heights or Hammond.
