@SoeMarrah Government is afraid to review the Labour laws due to huge wage bills. But we have to move forward as a Nation. Salaries must be amonise and reduce on the Government wage bills. At this current economy minimum wage should be 5,000 and above.

Two things can be true at the same time: 1. The Koidu/Octea workers might have valid grievances that need to be addressed through the proper legal channels. 2. While the First Lady had good intentions for the workers, her protest approach was misguided, disrupting business and undermining the rule of law and established parliamentary structures for employee’s grievances. With Koidu/Octea’s threatened legal action against the Fist Lady and hundreds of employees reportedly losing their jobs, Government must step in to ease tensions and prevent the situation from worsening.

@VickieRemoe Africa can do it. We have all the resources, both human and natural. See a perfect example of that honourable young man in Burkina Faso is doing for his nation. Just under 2 years, see the gains he is making. That is why he is celebrated for his selflessness and love for his home

The $480 million MCC compact awarded to Sierra Leone for energy infrastructure in 2024 is now in jeopardy because of Trump’s cut to foreign assistance. SMH!

@VickieRemoe @VickieRemoe, you should be directing this statement to the politicians and the elite that are destroying our nations. President Trump is doing what is best for the US. Stop blaming him for our self-inflicted predicament.

@VickieRemoe Are you surprised, @VickieRemoe. You shouldn't be, my dear. The vast majority of US citizens voted for this. Why should Sierra Leone depend on peanuts when we have all it takes to transform our nation, but, because of evil and selfish politicians, we are backwards

The nation of Sierra Leone’s reputation teeters on the brink—scandal upon scandal. From ‘KUSH’ ravaging our streets to cocaine scandals abroad, #SierraLeone faces a crisis of policing and governance. As our youth fall prey to drugs and our name is tarnished globally, we must pause for serious reflection. Our future hangs in the balance. #SierraLeone #NationalCrisis @USEmbFreetown @UKinSierraLeone @INTERPOL_HQ @PoliceLeone @SLAJ_Salone @awokonewspaper @LeoneIssues @AYVnews #SaloneX #SaloneTwitter

@MichaelBasita Madame lawyer, please don't waste your precious time on this. Someone has just politicised your take on this issue. This is how low Sierra Leone has become when it comes to matters of national interest. This will end up to be another "buff case."

Shielding Minister Sandy: The implications The government has consistently portrayed itself, both domestically and internationally, as a leading force in the fight against sexual violence, particularly against women, through the introduction of groundbreaking initiatives. Some of these significant measures include: In December 2018, the First Lady launched the “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign. In September 2019, the Sexual Offences Act was amended to introduce life imprisonment and harsher sentences for rape and sexual offences. In February 2019, the government declared a state of national emergency in response to the escalating instances of rape and sexual violence. In November 2022, the government sponsored a U.N. General Assembly resolution establishing November 18th as a day to spotlight the sexual exploitation and abuse of children. This resolution was spearheaded by Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio. In September 2022, under the leadership of President Bio, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a Resolution on Access to Justice for Survivors of Sexual Violence. Against this backdrop of notable progress, it is alarming and deeply concerning that the government has remained silent on the recent allegations against the Minister of Works, Dennis Moinina Sandy. These allegations, made public in a video posted by his stepdaughter, Amira Koroma, demand immediate attention. We have made significant strides in the fight against sexual violence, and it would be tragic to jeopardize all that progress for the sake of Minister Sandy. Is the government willing to risk its hard-won reputation? It is imperative that the government recognises the gravity of this situation. Sierra Leone cannot afford to retain in its cabinet an individual who stands accused of such serious misconduct, especially after the government has positioned itself as a global leader in the fight against sexual violence. Failure to launch an investigation into these allegations will not only damage the government's reputation domestically but will also severely undermine its international standing. Shielding Minister Sandy from scrutiny is utterly incompatible with the global image Sierra Leone has worked so hard to cultivate as a champion against sexual violence. This inaction is also unfair to the well-meaning Sierra Leoneans at the United Nations who are tirelessly working to ensure that our small nation continues to make a positive impact on the global stage. To allow their efforts to be overshadowed by the government's decision to protect a minister accused of such heinous acts would be a grave injustice. The concern extends beyond merely protecting the individual in question; it also empowers him to potentially continue acts of abuse and intimidation from a position of authority. In August 2024, His Excellency the President, in a passionate interview with RISE, stated that his ambition is to "build a global alliance with other nations, multilateral institutions, international partners, and stakeholders to develop and agree on an International Treaty to guarantee access to justice for survivors of sexual violence." This raises an important question: who will ensure that our girls and women within Sierra Leone’s borders are afforded the same access to justice that the President seeks to provide on the global stage? In September 2024, reports highlighted that, thanks to the passage of the UN General Assembly Resolution on Access to Justice for Survivors of Sexual Violence, “President Bio ensured that 1.3 billion survivors worldwide gained access to justice.” While we take pride in our President’s achievements on the international stage, we long for the day when our own citizens at home are given even a fraction of that justice. It is time for the government to act decisively, honouring its commitments to the people of Sierra Leone and maintaining the standards it has set for itself on the global platform.

@LeoneIssues If what this ambassador is saying that no one has evidence of elections results is anything to go by, then why give such monies to broken instructions? Is the US defining the principles of democracy to meet their vested interest?

Give MCC a break! The U S $480 million MCC grant to Sierra Leone government should be seen as a humanitarian aid to the people and not an endorsement to the Bio government. It is naive to think the aid is an endorsement of Bio. The U S Government still maintains their position of a non transparent election. The righteous should not suffer for the wicked!

#SaloneX If the US ambassador is saying this, it means the US does not stand for democracy. Why is the MCC signing a compact agreement with SL when they did not fulfill election credibility criteria? Q- Why is Konneh still in office if he can not provide election results.

Achieving justice and accountability for violence related to the 2023 electoral cycle, including the full and expeditious implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and the joint recommendations of the Tripartite Committee, will remain key requirements for the implementation of the US$480 million @MCCgov Compact Program with Sierra Leone according to a press release from @USEmbFreetown The agreement, which was signed yesterday in Washington DC, is expected to go through Cabinet on Wednesday and Parliament for ratification when they resume in October 2024. At a cocktail event yesterday after the signing ceremony, @PresidentBio thanked his Vice President, @VP_Jalloh for leading the process to pass the indicators since 2018 and also Ndeye Koroma, the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the Sierra Leone Compact Development Unit who has worked under two Presidents whom he described as a professional who has worked hard to get the Compact Program. The government of Sierra Leone will provide US$14.2 million as their contribution to the five-year program, which is expected to transform and address the energy transmission challenges in the country. #FreetownStories #TruthTellers

Why is the former Chief Minister #David Francis shaking over the egregious $4.5M University of Sierra Leone-@femabproperties deal??? The former chief Minister has given different statements on the same issue. Whereas he told @Africa_Conf that he supported and championed the project, #Francis has now told local media that he did not champion the project. #DavidFrancis is using the local media in a desperate fashion to get himself out of the long arm of the law for his alleged role in deceiving cabinet. @Femabiodun @accsierraleone @TransparencyUK @UKinSierraLeone @USEmbFreetown

The suspended Auditor General, Lara Taylor-Pearce, has responded to the Tribunal Report, which she said she is surprised about and disappointed over and how they handled the evidence presented to them and their conclusions. She denies all the allegations of third-party involvement, breach of confidentiality, failing to do a performance audit on the Freetown City Council, and conflict of interest noting that no direct evidence of wrongdoing or misconduct on her part was presented during the hearings. "Let me say that findings and conclusions as stipulated in the report not only negate the very essence of public sector auditing (which is to independently safeguard the use of taxpayer’s monies) but will also negatively affect the future of any independent public sector auditing in Sierra Leone," she warned. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, @dsengeh has assured the public that he will pay great attention to the implementation of three out of the four recommendations of the Tribunal Report, which are the removal of Tamba Momoh as the Deputy Auditor-General by the Board, the Anti-Corruption Commission to critically look into the Freetown City Council Transform Freetown project which he said has been linked repeatedly to corruption and to review the Constitution to provide an effective mechanism for the monitoring and disciplining of the Auditor-General. Unlike Lara who has from the onset denied any wrongdoing and justified her work to audit the Office of @PresidentBio, neither the Chief Minister nor anyone in government has publicly challenged the fake receipts that were discovered and verified in the Audit Report of 2020 on the Office of the President. If you're reading this and have seen any direct response from the government to the allegations of fake receipts, please share it with me. Since when the report was released, no one has been held accountable, nor has the public been informed about any action, if there was any. I am sure this is the most critical issue citizens will want to know about and how taxpayers' monies allocated to the Presidency are spent. How could the public be assured that the same issue of alleged fake receipts is still not happening with the many trips the President is making overseas? Our Members of Parliament who are on recess will hopefully find time to read the Tribunal Report and the response from Lara Taylor-Pearce to make informed arguments and decisions on the recommendations. Until then, people at State House who couldn't tell us what administrative action they took against the reinstated Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Tarawally, on the recommendations of the Anti-Corruption Commission, shouldn't be trying too hard to let us believe that they care so much about accountability and the fight against corruption. #FreetownStories #TruthTellers

#Misleading, #Deception, #Incorrect and #FalseAssertion are words that are used in the letter of the Auditor General #LaraTaylorPearce in her initial reaction to a tribunal report that was published and laid in Parliament, recommending her removal and investigation by @accsierraleone The tribunal was set up after the Auditor General and her deputy were suspended by @PresidentBio for lack of professionalism. Lawyer for the Suspended Auditor General #RolandWright went to court to question the legality of the tribunal but the matter was never assigned since March 2021. She explained that the final Auditor General’s report 2020, which included the issue in contention was reviewed and published after her suspension, giving those who claim it was changed ample opportunity to amend it to reflect what they are now claiming. On the issue of @FCC_Freetown, she said that they are donor funds and they were not in the custody of the @FCC_Freetown but were managed by implementing partners not under the purview of the ASSL. She also dismissed allegations of breach of confidentiality and conflict of interest, revealing that the tribunal disregarded two Sierra Leonean defence witnesses, whose combined experience both in private and public sector auditing including within the ASSL, more than doubles the experience of the State’s own expert witness. @INTOSAIJournal @INTOSAI_IDI @INTOSAIChair @WorldBankAfrica @WorldBank @AfDB_Group @oagmoj2023 @dsengeh

On seeing this post from @samurakamara201, I remember the last thing on my mind yesterday. I was asking myself this very question: Is Sierra Leone a cursed nation? What is actually wrong with us as a people? #SaloneX
SamuraKamara2023@samurakamara201

Is Sierra Leone a dead man walking? The Bible says: "If the building that a man puts on the foundation still stands, he will get his reward. But if his building is burned up, he will suffer loss". "If the foundations be destroyed, What can the righteous do?
