It appears that several of these websites are ignoring their legal obligation to establish a removal process. We’re reminding them that the FTC is serious about protecting the vulnerable, especially children and minors, from such abuse. With penalties of up to $53,088 per violation, platforms can’t afford to ignore the law for long. ftc.gov/news-events/ne…

Today we sent warning letters to a dozen purveyors of “nudify” tools that convert harmless snapshots into fully explicit images. Often, these conversions occur without the consent of the person depicted. Under the Take It Down Act, online platforms must remove any nonconsensual, intimate images — whether fabricated or real — within 48 hours of a victim’s request.

We have issued guidance for platforms to clarify their obligations under the law, and they’ve already had a year to comply. If platforms fail to comply, the FTC will hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Thanks to @FLOTUS, Congress passed, and President Trump signed, the Take It Down Act to protect victims from further exploitation. It’s now in full effect. TakeItDown.ftc.gov gives victims somewhere to turn for help, even if their likeness has been doctored or AI-generated.

Today @TheJusticeDept and @TXAG announced a landmark $10 million resolution in which Texas Children’s Hospital will cease performing sex-rejecting procedures on minors and create a new detransition clinic to care for victims of these procedures.

No one should profit from the proliferation of nonconsensual intimate images or deepfakes. Victims, especially minors, need to be protected from the degenerates who produce this material for blackmail or even more depraved motives. The Trump-Vance FTC is doing just that.
