@RivianTrackr I believe EVs should pay a fee to make up for not paying fuel taxes, but $130 at $0.184/gal federal gas tax is 706gal. That’s 21.1k miles at 30mpg where national average for miles driven is 13.5k. A fee of $85 would be much more commensurate.

Not a fan of new fees, but this was coming one way or another. A bunch of states already charge EV owners, so ideally the feds don’t double dip on top of what people are already paying. That’s the part worth watching.

Hot take, $130 a year for EVs isn’t the scandal everyone’s making it out to be. The average gas driver already pays ~$100 in federal gas tax. The real problem is they made it flat, so low-mileage owners massively overpay. riviantrackr.com/news/the-130-f…

Average MPG for cars on the road is about 23 - 24 MPG according to the U.S. DOT - bts.gov/content/averag… Newer cars are better, obviously. The 12-14k miles per year is about right. The fee seems slightly high but not obnoxious. EVs also pay a weight fee in Washington state for licensing, so it isn't just the EV charges.

The House highway bill is completely backwards. It makes no sense to put new fees on EVs and cut funding for transit when Americans are paying more for gas and energy thanks to Trump’s disastrous policies—and while Big Oil pockets billions in taxpayer-funded subsidies.

I just found out E-ZPass is a regional thing. I’ve never been outside of E-ZPass America in a relevant capacity before except for CT and VT, which don’t do tolls. It feels like it should exist everywhere.
