It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to listen to US presidents for 2 decades complain about European fecklessness and lack of spending on defense. Trump is the only one who did something about it. Remind me, how many destroyers does the British navy have available for service right now? 2? The master of the seas has allowed itself to become of its former self. Not saying this from a happy position. Delusion is believing that someone has capabilities that don’t match the facts. In a year or so, the truth is going to finally hit you. Hopefully it won’t be too late to do something about it

The internal politics of European nations and those of the United States differ, but at the same time, we have reached a point where NATO itself, as a functional alliance, is at least at risk and possibly nearing its end. Domestic politics will determine part of this, but both sides have stated that even if the institution might survive, the alliance itself, which is its spirit, is in mortal danger.

Sure it was fine. Let US pay for everything. Great deal for Europe, crappy deal for US. Not a solo player, looking for partners who bring something to the table. Like Japan. Germany, they bring snide condescending to new levels. Starmer, not even sure what to say about him.

@George_Friedman NATO was doing just fine under Biden, Trump is just incapable of collaborating with allies or anybody for that matter. He’s a solo player. If the US keeps elected incompetent leaders like him NATO will certainly not last.

Dumb comment. US has consistently helped countries in need, whether in an alliance or not. You’re just mad because the game is over. No more free riding on US taxpayers. To compare to drug addiction, you and most of Europe are in the denial and blame stage. Accept no responsibility for any of the problems, it’s daddy’s fault for not letting me get my next fix.

@George_Friedman Really, NATO is *already* dead. Anybody believing that Trump would come to the aid of another member that issued a request for assistance under Article 5 is living in a dreamworld.

@Timcast Disassociate from the nut jobs makes perfect sense. They are a poison that kind of sits on the edge of conservatives. What Candace did regarding Charlie’s wife is beyond deplorable

What are you effectively arguing is that, the real goal should have been regime change. A change in leadership in Iran was the only way to truly upset the apple cart since Iran is a key part of the plan. Arming minority/splinter groups in Iran should have been the most important feature of this war. Arming everyone while bullets were flying would have been perfectly understandable. If we are in a period of ceasefire, pretty certain giving everyone a gun would be breaking that ceasefire. Of course, what do we care. This is assuming that we haven't already been doing this. The Azeris, the Kurds, etc. probably would like the mullahs foot off their throat.

‘We’d be stepping away from the post-WWII system….” I think the European inability to provide any attempt in providing for their own defense would constitute stepping away. When your drug addicted child just can’t seem to get their act together, giving them one more chance facilitates really bad behavior. It is time for them to step up. I think they are still a couple of years from doing this. They are in the denial and blame stage.

Trump's latest statement telling countries to secure their own oil dismantles the very fabric of the global order. We'd be stepping away from the post-WWII system where the U.S. provided security for everyone, so economic growth could be the priority. Full Newsletter: bit.ly/4c4puXe

Well, the Iranians have been working on this for roughly 20 years, give or take and still haven't completed. You are correct, the tech isn't overwhelming anymore but the equipment is not exactly off the shelf. Centrifuges at this level aren't particularly easy to come by. I guess I should see if I can find one on Amazon. Storage is pretty important, don't want to poison your scientists. So, let me recap your position. If the Obama deal had stayed in place, Iran wouldn't have nukes because the deal would have prevented that. On the other hand, building nukes is easy so therefore, not really worth trying to stop them. I see some serious contradictions in these two points. I could be wrong since I apparently don't have the ability to think for myself. Or do, still trying to sort that one out assuming I have the mental capacity to draw that conclusion. Or I could ask Grok. Have a wonderful day.

General Caine this morning. The US has destroyed: - ~80% of Iran’s air defense systems (>1500 AD targets) - >450 ballistic missile storage facilities - >800 one-way attack drone storage facilities - >200 C2 nodes - 90% of the Navy (150 ships) and half of IRGC small attack boats - 95% of naval mines - 90% of weapons factories including every factory that produced Shaheds and their guidance systems - 80% of missile production facilities - >20 naval production and fabrication facilities damaged or destroyed - 80% of nuclear industrial base

Assuming you were old enough to remember the facts surrounding the Iraq war, most leaders in and outside the U.S. believed it. Easy to understand why since the U.S. most likely gave them the tech. Chemical weapons were used against the Kurds and the Iranians. That is somewhat irrelevant though. The Iranians had no intention of giving up their nuclear ambitions and a couple of weeks ago claimed that they were at 60% enrichment which is nearly enough for building a bomb. So there is that.

BS. You can't honestly believe that the Obama deal slowed their progress. Stuxnet dramatically slowed their progress. Last year's attacks slowed their progress. They were never going to give up their nuclear ambitions because they understood that nukes made them untouchable.

Gee, imagine the Iranians with another year under their belt, nuclear capability fully in hand and thousand or so more missiles. What we are seeing is child's play next to what we would see in the future. This war was going to happen, only issue is that Trump chose the timing instead of allowing the Iranians to choose the timing for maximum effect.
