@ShiningScience Bacterial resistance does not represent an increase in genetic information. In most cases, it results from the loss or inactivation of existing gene functions, such as the deletion or modification of drug receptors. Therefore, antibiotic resistance does not reflect evolution.

Evolution is a scientific fact supported by fossils, genetics, and real-time observation. Ultimately, it is one of the most well-supported and foundational principles in modern science, backed by an overwhelming body of evidence. Let’s dive into the evidence and what we know about where we came from. Fossils reveal clear records of species transformation over millions of years, including transitional forms that show how ancient species gradually gave rise to modern ones. Genetics adds another layer of confirmation, uncovering shared DNA sequences that point to a common ancestry among all living organisms. These genetic similarities—whether in fruit flies or humans—are impossible to ignore and provide a molecular map of evolutionary history. But evolution isn’t just something that happened in the distant past—it’s happening right now. The rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and pesticide-resistant insects are real-time examples of natural selection, one of evolution’s key mechanisms. Other forces like genetic mutation, recombination, and genetic drift also help explain how species adapt and diverge over generations. With a solid theoretical foundation and observable phenomena to match, evolution stands as both a scientific fact and a powerful explanatory framework for understanding the diversity of life on Earth. Walking backward, also known as retro-walking, activates the brain more than normal walking because it is less automatic and requires greater concentration and control. This increased demand stimulates the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for logic, problem-solving, focus, and decision-making. Retro-walking also enhances spatial awareness, memory, coordination, and balance by encouraging the brain to form new neural pathways. Research suggests that even visualizing backward walking can improve memory and reaction time, showing its strong cognitive impact. These benefits have been highlighted by UCLA Health, which notes the connection between backward movement and increased cognitive engagement.

Your heart’s magnetic field is 100x stronger your brain’s—and reaches three feet away. The HeartMath Institute summary of McCraty’s (2004) chapter explains that the human heart generates the body’s most powerful electromagnetic field, both electrically and magnetically. The electrical field of the heart, measured by the electrocardiogram (ECG), is described as roughly 60 times greater in amplitude than brain waves recorded by an electroencephalogram (EEG). The magnetic component of the heart’s field is reported to be about 100 times stronger than that produced by the brain and can be detected several feet away using SQUID-based magnetometers. This field permeates every cell of the body and is proposed to function as a global synchronizing signal, analogous to how information is carried by radio waves. The summary further notes that the rhythmic patterns of heart rate variability (HRV) change systematically with emotional states, and these shifts in rhythm are reflected in electromagnetic, sound pressure, and blood pressure waves generated by the heart. According to the chapter, these waves are “felt” by all cells, supporting a view of the heart as a central organizer of physiological coherence. The text also suggests that the heart’s field is not only an internal signaling mechanism but may support energetic communication between people when they are within range of one another’s bioelectromagnetic fields. “My parents could barely read or write. It’s been quite a journey, science allows you to do it.” New laureate Omar Yaghi was in the middle of changing flights when we reached him, just after he heard that he had been awarded the 2025 #NobelPrize in Chemistry. In this interview we speak about his early life as a refugee in Jordan and the overwhelming draw of the beauty of chemistry: “I set out to build beautiful things and solve intellectual problems.” Listen now:

@DrAkhilX Haha yeah, just like that time when the patient’s heart was actually on the right side, but all the doctors were standing on the left listening with their stethoscopes, saying “his heart’s not okay” — while the poor guy’s heart was perfectly fine 🤣
