Malaysia tidak eksport semua minyak berkualiti tinggi. Kita hanya eksport sekitar 30% minyak mentah sahaja & 70% lagi diproses dalam negara jadi petrol, diesel etc etc. Kenapa eksport juga? Sebab minyak mentah kita berkualiti tinggi dan mahal. Lebih berbaloi jual, kemudian import minyak lain untuk diproses. Ini strategi ekonomi, bukan rugi. Tetapi, masalah sebenar adalah; Permintaan rakyat Malaysia > pengeluaran domestik. Contoh kasar, kita hasilkan 3.8 juta tan petrol tapi guna 14.8 juta tan. Defisit besar. Jadi kita terpaksa import. Ini bukan pilihan tetapi ini keperluan. Kalau tak import, tak cukup petrol untuk rakyat. Kenapa tak guna minyak kita sahaja? Sebab kilang penapisan perlukan campuran minyak tempatan + import untuk hasilkan produk ikut standard (Euro5, dll). Sebab itu kita eksport dan kita juga import. Tak pelik, sebab standard dalam industri global.
