We applied to @ycombinator 13 hours late from our Columbia dorms after four consecutive all nighters. A little over a month later, we flew out to sf for our interview with @snowmaker and @gustaf. Now, we're <1 month away from moving to sf to start the batch in June! S26 applications are due tonight. Apply! Late if you have to. To be honest, we’ve seen a few clients in exactly this situation — the product is well-known, and the website already has strong structured data, but due to a lack of external signals, their AI visibility is still very low. However, because of privacy considerations, it’s not really appropriate to share those cases directly. I’ll try to pick some less sensitive or more niche products later on and share them as case studies instead 😆

Spot on, Ajay! It’s primarily a Data Availability problem masquerading as a Trust issue. Think of it this way: AI might "know" you as a brand entity from a press release (Awareness), but when a user asks for a specific solution, the AI looks for structured, evidence-based data (Trust). If your competitors have more in-depth documentation, Reddit mentions, and technical comparisons feeding the LLM, the AI algorithm automatically assumes they are the more trusted solution. You lose the recommendation purely on data density.

@tim_geo_seo Interesting — so it’s not just structured data, but where it lives also drives trust. Feels like GEO = structure (SEO-like) + platform trust (Reddit, YouTube, etc.) Have you seen strong structured data still lose due to weaker platform presence?

Based on what we’ve observed, the first thing is that the data needs to be structured and easy for AI engines to parse, which is pretty similar to SEO in that sense. In practice, that usually means things like clear product specs, FAQ blocks, comparison tables, pricing pages, feature matrices, step-by-step docs, schema-marked content, and well-labeled use cases or testimonials. From the citations side, we do see certain platforms getting surfaced by AI much more often. That is not always because the content is better, but because the platform itself fits the model’s trust pattern. For example, Reddit often gets cited because it feels like real user discussion, and it is harder to game with promotional content. YouTube, LinkedIn, Wikipedia, and some niche directories or marketplaces also show up frequently. The image below can be used as a reference. We selected launch platforms like Product Hunt as the focus of our analysis and examined, over the past 7 days, which domains are typically referenced when they are recommended by LLMs 👀
