I cried the night this happened to my wife. I was so mad, I was shedding tears at EFCC office in Ilorin. They said they wrote to the bank and there was no response so they sent officers to the bank to arrest anyone they met there. They got there and promptly picked up the two most senior staff on duty. They took their phones so they couldn't call anyone. I went to pick my wife from work and no one would tell me what happened until 7PM when someone asked me to go to EFCC office. What did she do? She had not committed or abbetted any crime. She was arrested because she was at work. I was not even supposed to be in Ilorin that day so my two kids, both minors, would have been alone, not knowing what happened to their mother. EFCC is not investigating violent crimes so I don't understand the gestapo techniques they use. They need to be cautioned. The law gives them so much leeway to carry out their duties but they also need to be regulated. They're not making friends with the way they carry on. They lost my support since that day. Anywhere you see them cursing EFCC, I'll be there.

@Joshkingsley6 @PeeGeeMax I’m sorry that’s not how it works, confidentiality doesn’t work when you are under investigation, surely the bank’s compliance team as well as legal department are usually involved. Also note that some branch managers do enable fraud and in turn tries to frustrate investigations.

@Akpgraham @PeeGeeMax They can't just send email and expect the bank to act. The bank also owes every customer a duty of confidentiality. They are to Write an official letter to the bank branch where the account is open. And the bank will in turn verify the letter before action from the bank.

@Joshkingsley6 @PeeGeeMax They don’t request such document through court orders, they usually send series of mails to branches where such account are opened, so when branch fails to provide such informations that’s when scenarios like dis happens and it’s also comes with heavy fines as well

Let them follow the law to carry out their duty. They can't be acting above the law in the name of fighting fraud.

@PeeGeeMax I’ve worked in a bank and I can tell u for a fact Efcc can’t come without prior warnings and reminder. What they are requesting most times are account opening packages and it’s the duty of branch to provide same. When u deliberately refuse to make it available they wil com for u

That's why you should now enter the bank and arrest 2 random staff? What happened to obtaining court orders? How many times have you heard that banks failed to comply with court orders? The truth is, any organization infiltrated by the Nigeria Police will misbehave. Just pray it doesn't happen to you because you don't even need to have done anything, you don't even need to be aware that anything is wrong.

I don’t think the government should be running any refinery. Privatise them all. Billions of dollars in turnaround maintenance that haven’t worked will not suddenly start working. By now, anyone who doesn’t get this wasn’t built to get it. That said, the process of privatisation must be transparent, free and fair. And if there must be privileges in the room, those privileges must be reserved for Nigerian companies. This NNPC deal with a Jiaxing firm doesn’t read well in any of the articles and reviews I have come across. The reason we keep taking one step forward and several steps backward, from government to government, on matters like this is that the foundations of these deals are often suspect from the start. A deal that cannot survive sunlight at inception will not survive scrutiny in operation. Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well. Our local players must take precedence over upstarts from wherever else. China wouldn’t prioritise a Nigerian company over its own. Certainly not a Nigerian upstart. We should not be the only country in the room confused about whose interests come first.

When I turned down my appointment in 2023, it was out of 3 principles: 1. I did not work or campaign for APC, so I don’t believe in eating from where I did not work or reaping where I didn’t sow. 2. My personal pact not to take up any political appointment or occupy any public office. 3. I have a law firm to grow and it was too early in time to open a law firm and jump into politics or public office. Your favourite grandpa who had labeled some of us all sorts because of his hatred for APC couldn’t even turn down an appointment or invitation from the same APC he hates so much as structure of criminality. Zero principle!!!
