Full on noise of full power launch! Lived in base housing on east edge of base where the engine tests were conducted at 2am!

I hear you Al. And I, too hear those tests from Oceana NAS here in Virginia Beach, and I live about 11 miles from the base. Also, tanker aircraft full of fuel taking off have rattled my windows. Too bad you don't live there now. El Toro MCAS officially closed on July 2, 1999, as part of the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. Its aviation operations and units were transferred primarily to MCAS Miramar. Have a great weekend friend.

We've all heard the term "Military Grade" Civilians drool over it while the military and us veterans know it's utter garbage. What are some good examples of things that are "Military Grade?"

The dumbest trend in math education might be the idea that students shouldn't memorize math facts because that's just "rote" and not what "real mathematicians do" Find me a professional mathematician who hasn't learned 6x7=42 to automaticity

I genuinely believe a 4 day workweek with 5 to 6 hour days would change society for the better. People would be less stressed, spend more time with family and friends, and actually have the energy to enjoy life instead of just recovering from work. We'd probably end up healthier and happier because of it.

The "College Textbook" scam is the perfect microcosm of the system. A book that cost $30 to print sells for $400, gets a new "edition" every year so you can't buy used, and is mandatory to pass. It's not education, it's a hostage situation with a reading list.

@SteveOnSpeed If you took that $6 dollars and invested it in a low cost S&P index for 40 years you would have $160k. Just saying margins matter in the long run!

I have to assume that everyone who's sitting in the Starbucks drive-through line to pick up their $6 "coffee" has a fully-funded 401(k), invests at least 20% of their income, and has plenty of money left over to spend on pricey coffee without worry.
