@MartinSLewis My mother could really do with a good answer to your first question, after handling the sale of her late parents house (and the subsequent family fallout 😔)
This woman has selflessly devoted her life to others, for over 40 years, and now she truly deserves the best for herself.

Sometimes a well-meaning tax code turns out to be utterly idiotic. The UK is a nice example where parents in need of childcare are actively encouraged to not earn more money / remain below their economic potential. Urgent need for tax reform. Source: telegraph.co.uk/money/tax/inco…

@MartinSLewis @itvMLshow I took early retirement but am 2 years short on my forecast to get a full state pension. Rather than pay additional contributions I am thinking of part time/temporary work. What is the minimum I need to do in terms of hours, money earned, etc, to earn a year's NI?
English

@RogerLee1969 @PhilCla56948097 @PolitlcsUK No he wasn't, the taser had taken him down but the effects wear off fairly quickly.
English

@PhilCla56948097 @PolitlcsUK He was incapacitated by taser ya Walloper!!
English

@Im_K1992 @PolitlcsUK But he wasn't "laid on the ground", he was on the ground fighting to try and stab the officers, who did not know what other weapons or explosives he had on him. No doubt their lives were in serious peril in tackling this violent armed criminal. They had to disarm him swiftly
English

@PolitlcsUK Cops aren’t trained to kick people in the head as they lie on the ground. If you give them a pass here because of the crime committed then where will it stop. They’ll carry on and abuse their powers in the future. If you can’t control yourself you shouldn’t be in the job.
English

@sophiablack042 @BenZona66 @metpoliceuk @JohnWight1 Would you object to an armed terrorist being shot by a firearms officer? He was armed and had tried to kill already, police didn't know what else he had on him (weapons, explosives) and were risking their lives.
English

@BenZona66 @aware_wanderer @metpoliceuk @JohnWight1 Kicking someone in the head doesnt fall into police remit at all. Nor can you show me evidence to prove otherwise.
English

This is outrageous. The guy is clearly incapacitated on the ground, having rightfully and thankfully been tased, yet two police officers are repeatedly kicking him in the head.
Who do they think they are: members of the IDF?
BRITAIN IS BROKEN 🇬🇧@BROKENBRITAIN0
🚨WATCH: Footage shows Golders Green knifeman being TASED, KICKED in the head, and ARRESTED after stabbing two Jewish people 🇬🇧
English

@aware_wanderer @ProactivePeter I consider kicking in the head an uncompliant, armed terrorist who is trying to kill people, and who could have a bomb rigged for all the officers know, reasonable. If an armed officer had shot him while he was armed, that would be reasonable and I regard being kicked as lesser
English

@ProactivePeter "Use of force legal framework" = Reasonable Force.
I don't think kicking somebody in the face and head before stamping on them equates to, 'reasonable force.'
English

@geordiemark4 @JoeSegar @JohnWight1 The "defenceless" person still had a knife and had already stabbed two people in cold blood. Those officers were risking their lives, I have no sympathy for the knifeman

The Bank of England’s latest policy decision is announced at noon. Widely expected to see a Hold in UK interest rates, but with most attention - quantitatively - on the vote split, and qualitatively on whether any of those voting to Hold are approaching the threshold of evidence to flip to a Hike at the June meeting.
The central inflation forecast will be highly sensitive to the conditioning energy price assumptions and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a range of scenarios illustrated in the MPR - as any price assumption always ran the risk of being out of date by the time of this afternoon’s press conference.
Don’t rule out a question or two on tolerance for elevated Gilt yields - we have seen (Sept 2022, Jan 2025) interventions from the BoE to address rapid shifts in financial conditions. We are probably not there yet, but some form of framework for intervention is a reasonable question for the Governor to face.
Personally, I’d vote for a Hold but also (hope) that I’d be increasingly vocal that the monetary authority’s ability to credibly look through inflation of this nature is impaired by the UK’s track record on inflation (3% for 15Y) which largely stems from a lack of focus on the health of the UK supply side.

@MrMBrown @TrisOsborneMP @Conservatives People in employment dropped as did vacancies. Not good news at all!

@TrisOsborneMP @Conservatives You’ve missed my point here. Unemployment did not fall for a ‘good’ reason. It fell because people stopped looking for a job. Again, how is that positive?
