@StanCollymore I don't even understand why they have a song about it. 649 Argentine military personnel, 255 British military personnel, and 3 Falkland Islanders died so unnecessarily. What is there to gloat about?

Per FIFA's own rules about political statements in the tournament, why haven't Argentina been sanctioned for repeated singing of songs that could only be described as inflammatory? I'm not getting into the geopolitics of any land mass anywhere, it's ownership or claims. But DR Congo had to literally change their shirt design because it celebrated independence, so pro players in a dressing room, ahead of what will already be a politically charged environment ( England expects post deleted because of how it could be interpreted, which wasn't my intention) being allowed repeatedly to sing politically motivated songs? If Republic of Ireland players sang rebel songs v Northern Ireland or vice versa in Dublin, FIFA would step in. Likewise issues with balkan nations in recent years. So what's different here? I have lots of Argentine followers so please go not see this as a "English v Argentina" attack, but merely we mostly all agree no politics in football is a good thing? So why no sanction or even warning? Daily Mail have already gone big on it, the world's largest English language newspaper now, so that video in the dressing room with stoke tension. Unnecessarily so. If we're serious about no politics in the sporting arena, then it must apply to all. Sensible, sane feedback welcome.

@killemall2024 @StanCollymore That's part of the problem though. Professional clubs here have Youth Teams, made up generally of the best local talent. That talent is found in the leagues which are / mostly are free to play. Once in a youth team, expenses are paid by the club. There's no pay to advance.

@StanCollymore You're only getting partial info Stan. All US cities have recreational youth soccer leagues that only cost $100-150/year to play. Open to all. Now if you want to play competitive, ENCL, MLS Next, etc. level of leagues, yes, you're looking at $4k - $50k/year w/ travel included.

Why the USA will never be a football superpower. Pay to play. In England, from 10 to 16 I payed junior football. The teams were mostly started by a parent who wanted, for free, to give kids a team to play in. Those teams then joined FA sanctioned leagues ( Lichfield league, Walsall league in my case). Subs were about 50p a game ( subs are a fee for admin, pitch hire, referee). The model in England hasn't changed much, save for the fact there's fewer teams and fewer leagues. But the cheap to play model, meaning the poor and rich can play equally, holds. I'm staying with one of my best mates in Miami. Had a late night conversation 2 nights ago. 2 kids that play football. $4000 per season, per child to play for a team. Why? US junior leagues are private enterprises (shock). The US equivalent of the Football Association offers no grassroots football, no level 1 to 3 cheap badges for Moms or Dads to take so they can coach the basics, no structure locally or nationally of organised leagues, just profiteers who start up a league, charge a fortune, and if you're a poor Messi-esque talent from the wrong part of Miami, sure you can buy a ball and play on a patch of grass, but forget organised football, you can't afford it. So imagine, in a nation of 350 million, how many kids they're missing out on and will continue to after this successful World Cup for them. Money, greed, pay to play. 99.9% of greats to play the game wouldn't have made it in America. Because they couldn't afford $4000 ( plus) to play. In subs my Mom probably paid £200 total over 6 or 7 years of junior football. America, it's not all about money you know, it's about opportunity for all too. And you're pricing generation after generation out of the chance to be a part of this incredible sport you've seen first hand. To the US Federation. Do fucking better. Organise local and national junior leagues, van profiteering, offer cheap coaching badges for parents who want to give their time for free to America's kids. Football. Accessible to all.

🇪🇨 A beautiful story has unfolded in Ecuador after their historic win at the World Cup against Germany... A young food vendor Karina Alexandra Velásquez has gone viral back home in Cuenca after she promised that if Ecuador won, she would give away all her espumilla in her cart. After the final whistle, she kept her word, handing out more than 100 portions of the sweet treat to celebrating fans. What makes it even more special is that Karina studies Fashion Design, and every sale helps pay for her university materials and fabrics. Even so, she gave away the fruits of her hard work for the love of her national team. Fans are now searching for her cart in the city to support her and repay the joy she brought to the community. 🥹 Stories like this are what makes the World Cup so special. ❤️

@hardcore_haney @nocontextfm1 Yeah, both the Dutch and English are capable of hosting it alone but I think it is now the norm to include neighbouring countries now. England hosted Euro 96 just fine, the stadiums are more than adequate, but it would definitely be a joint UK tournament next time.

@AlanAtkinson85 @nocontextfm1 That was just the Euros though, & along with Belgium. Suppose you could do something similar & maybe add England/Britain? I dunno, just spitballing. Especially if they up the tournament again to 64…which is very probable

Dutchman Jordy de Wijs models the 2019/20 third kit by Umbro. The main tone of the shirt is 'Deep Lagoon', chosen as it resembled the 'stadium green'* coat of paint on much of Boothferry Park in the 70s. #hcafc *Think Wimbledon or Twickenham.

Harry Maguire, who is English and Northern Irish… … has been demographically replaced in the England World Cup team by an African named ‘Addji Keaninkin Marc-Israel Guéh’ born in Ivory Coast. What’s the point in a ‘national’ football team if someone who is NOT from that nation can join? Maguire should play for England. Guéh should play for Ivory Coast. Common sense. I’m sure Maguire isn’t even allowed to contest this decision because, as his shirt says in the photo below, ‘no room for racism’.

🚨 A quick word on Boro and Hull… ⬇️ Genuinely good luck to both in the final. Boro have a brilliant team and thoroughly deserve to be there after our cheating; and Hull have shown the tenacity and character worthy of being promoted. However, this situation means that Hull will have had to change their plans massively, whilst Boro have faced the psychological knock of losing at the last-minute to Southampton. A complete mess. However, spare a thought to the thousands of #SaintsFC fans who paid for travel, accommodation and the tickets in the final. Not to mention the fact that the Saints fans are entirely innocent of this fiasco! The majority of us are condemning the cheating and rightly calling for the ownership to take responsibility. A disastrous end to what was appearing to be a brilliant climax. What a mess.
