I earned my $$ recently. FYI this is a CAT III approach (RVR 600/600/300), hand flown on a HUD.

In honour of William Shatner’s 95th birthday, I've just watched Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)... again. The Mutara Nebula battle is still stunning, and presenting starships-as-submarines running blind is pure genius. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Different one today. My Samsung washing machine stopped with an "SC" error, which means it can't pump water out. This machine is 7 years old and has never given us any issues. I had to take it apart to access the pump which I had never done. Will I fix it? Find out below! 👇

According to a report from Breaking Defense, the U.S. Navy has officially delayed the decommissioning of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) until at least March of 2027 to maintain a fleet size of 11 active carriers. Its replacement will be the USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79), which is scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in mid-2027.

I had perfect vision (20/15) for most of my life. I hit my mid 40s and my vision dropped off a cliff. I wear progressive lens now to correction for near/far and in between. Glasses are a pain and definitely makes me miss the no glasses days. Has anyone had the multifocal refractive lens replacement surgery? Looks like it is an approved procedure with the FAA. Just curious about the results.

I really don't eat much on flights and pretty much snack on stuff. So, for me, catering is kind of pointless. I prefer a few slices of pizza at a fuel stop if we are having a long day. Part of the issue, is we can not carry a bunch of catering through security. The only option then, is to order catering from the same place the airlines order catering. It’s not only low quality, but costs a small fortune.

Did you know that @BoeingAirplanes built the first @Airbus ? This is the Boeing 747SR the Short Range Jumbo, and arguably one of the most radical airliner variants ever certified. In the 1970s, Japan needed capacity, not range. Slot-constrained airports, booming domestic demand, and city-pair routes of barely an hour meant airlines wanted maximum passengers, minimum fuel, and relentless cycle rates. Boeing responded by turning the intercontinental 747 into a high-density people mover, effectively creating the world’s first true mass-market airbus decades before the term became common. A few remarkable facts about the 747SR: •Designed primarily for Japan Airlines and ANA for domestic trunk routes. •Structural reinforcement for up to 20,000+ take-off and landing cycles (several times a standard 747). •Typical seating 450–550+ passengers, with some layouts exceeding 560 seats on sectors sometimes shorter than London–Edinburgh. •Reduced fuel capacity to save weight, optimised for high-frequency, short-haul operations. •Routinely performed multiple sectors per day, often with 30–40 minute turnarounds. It was the original wide-body commuter bus. A cathedral of aluminium doing shuttle runs. While the 747 is remembered for crossing oceans, the SR quietly moved tens of millions of people every year over a few hundred miles, proving that scale wasn’t just about distance, but density. JUMBO, released 19 February, tells this story and dozens more. The variants, the engineering compromises, the airline strategies, and the human stories behind the Queen of the Skies. Pre-order now and discover how one aircraft became many, and why Boeing’s first “Airbus” changed aviation forever. #JumboBook #Boeing747 #747SR #AviationHistory #QueenOfTheSkies #AvGeek #Widebody #AirbusBeforeAirbus #AviationPhotography #AirlineHistory #BookLaunch #PreOrderNow

The Leduc 0.21 was a 1953 French ramjet test aircraft, air-launched with pilot in intake cone. Achieved Mach 0.95 over 284 flights, front part of the fuselage including the cockpit was an escape pod. Government withdrew support and it was abandoned in 1958.😎

@BuzzLightSabre @aviationarchive There were a lot of design leaks from various French engineers to the Russians but in the end the Soviet Bureau could not copy the digital engine computers that made the Concorde outstand. The TU-144 would have to use analog mechanical engine computers severing its performance

The Russian Tupolev Tu-144, the world's 1st supersonic transport (SST), made its maiden flight on Dec 31, 1968, beating its rival, the Concorde, by 2 months. It would later break the sound barrier in Jun 69 but face significant technical issues and limited passenger service.😎

Have you ever wondered why airflow clings to curved surfaces and helps aircraft fly so efficiently? That phenomenon is called the Coandă Effect. •It describes how a fluid, such as air, naturally follows the contour of a curved surface instead of continuing in a straight line. •Aircraft engineers harness this effect to enhance lift and control on wings, flaps, and even engine nacelles. •By managing airflow more effectively, aircraft achieve smoother handling and improved fuel efficiency. ✨ Fun fact: The Coandă Effect isn’t limited to aviation—it’s also applied in modern hair dryers and even hovercraft technology!
