Ars Gratia Artis. Even though there are powerful new prompt-controlled tools emerging, which may soon become industry standard, I still like the precision and consistency of 3D modelling. It can be very laborious, but the struggle mostly results in a great sense of satisfaction.

I think I'm quite a nostalgic soul by nature and so every Christmas Eve, I find myself thinking about December 24ths of days gone by. Invariably, I am drawn to one when I was nine - a year older than my daughter is now. I grew up in Orkney where snow is a very occasional visitor. This particular year, if I'm remembering it correctly, it fell in barrowloads of white magic. My brother is ten years older than me and had left home to go to university a year earlier but came home for Christmas, which was as big an excitement as any wrapped parcel. I looked up to him immensely. My aunt also travelled north to stay with my granny, who lived around 40 minutes drive away. On Christmas Eve, my mum and dad drove to collect them to bring them over to ours. Usually, they would collect them on Christmas morning but, with more snow forecast overnight, they didn't want to take any chances. They left my brother in charge of my sister (three years his junior) and I, and the instruction was straightforward: no going out, no messing around. Just stay in and behave. My folks were gone no more than 5mins when my brother told me to switch off the Mega Drive and go and get my jacket and scarf. "Where are we going?" I asked him. "Up to the hostel," he said. "Why?" "We're going sledging." My sister didn't want to join us - too cool - so my brother and I walked around to the school hostel around 10mins away, him pulling our old, wooden sledge behind him. The hostel was a great pick for it had a steep grass hill in front of it and was pretty secluded. Plus, with the schools being on holiday, there was nobody there. We trampled our way through the unmarked, fresh snow and soon arrived at our destination to find a dozen or so other kids playing on the slopes. Over the next hour, I sledged for the first time in my life. Down and back up. Down and back up. Down and back up. Complete joy. I have a vivid memory of looking up at the sky as we trudged home - cold and wet and delighted - and noticing how clear and starry it was. It was as still a time as I can recall. The whole scene exists in my mind's eye as a perfect Christmas moment, and around this exact time every year, I think about it. I'd love to talk to my brother about it, even if just to thank him for giving me arguably the fondest Christmas memory of my childhood, but we lost touch many years ago. I won't go into details. The short version is that we both said some stuff we shouldn't have and here we are. To me shame, I'm not even sure where he is anymore. But this isn't about stupid adults. This is about gleeful kids. Because that is really what this time of year is really all about. And so here's wishing you and yours all the very best. I hope you never get too old to look to the skies on this particular night, just on the off-chance. And if ever the chance arises, go sledging. 🎄

A first at Hayling as we installed @EcoBunkerLtd to replace our practice bunker. Ideal alternative for its location and frequency of use. Finishing touches around it next week. Finished up the week adding a bout marker setup to our Vicon for its first outing next week.

@AlanGStrachan @Hillside_GC There pretty much service free other than a bath once a week and routine blade changes to maintain that sharp cut. Life span is the unknown factor at the min but hearing 5-6 years before a new battery is required. Blades are about £2 each

12 months since the fleet of 5 was first deployed over the fairway’s @Hillside_GC but we will admit to still using a fairway mower? Yes !! On the range tee for a total of 7 hours work for the year ⛳️

#TilesOnTuesday: Spotted this beautiful Hyndland “Super-Wally” close while passing last week. It is probably by architect John Campbell McKellar who specialised in tenements designing no less than 640 of them. The bold choice of colours, stripes and patterns is most memorable 🥰!
