Reading with your kids is one of the best gifts you can give them
Compared to non-readers, kids who read often have:
- Stronger communication & language skills
- Better overall mental health
- Better grades in school
Plus the time spent reading together will strengthen parent-child bonds
For best results, read WITH kids.
Do the voices
Add in some sound effects.
Ask them to read a line or point to a picture.
This will become one of the best times of the day for both you!

My boss's boss is like 42, never married, no kids. Earns $275-300K per year. Goes on a minimum of two international vacations a year w/ his girlfriend. 10+ days, all out.
Eats the best food, stays in top notch accomodations. Excursions, tours, nicest beaches, etc.
Great guy, I'm happy for him.
But what I've realized is that without kids, you end up chasing a lifestyle that has to continually be topped in order for you to be satisfied and find happiness.
What he and others like him don't understand is that when you have children, seeing THEM experience life's most basic things and watching their eyes light up at all the "firsts", brings greater pleasure and joy than any vacation or travel experience ever could.
Seeing THEM try blueberries for the first time is greater than dining at the best 5 star restaurant in Europe.
Seeing THEM learn how to walk is greater than walking the Great Wall of China or strolling along the most picturesque beach.
Watching THEM giggle uncontrollably at "peek-a-boo" tops any A-list comedian act.
Seeing THEIR excitement when building a fort out of cardboard boxes and making a door big enough for daddy is superior to staying at 5-star resorts.
Flying kites with THEM far outweighs excursions like parasailing or helicopter rides.
Seeing THEM perform a recital on stage for the first time is more rewarding than watching a Broadway show or top notch symphony orchestra.
-----------------
When you have children, all of a sudden you realize that life's greatest joys are not in the pursuit of things or pleasure or travel, but rather in the LOVE and bond you share with your very own image bearers.
Seeing the beauty and magnificence and wonder of life all over again for the first time through THEIR eyes and expressions gives you something the world simply cannot offer, nor even come close.

I am going to harp about modern dads for a second.
I have noticed this with predominantly White dads as well.
No, you are NOT “Baby sitting” your own children, you are spending time with them, You are raising them. You are teaching the next generation. You have the honor of having children, Act like it.
Cherish every damn second, and have more children as well.
Turn off the TV, set down the cellphone, DESTROY YOUR TABLET.
And just….be present. Play with them, teach them, raise them.
Okay thankyou for coming to my Ted talk.

I have 4 kids and absolutely love it.
But I've also lost my temper. Snapped at them. Felt like a failure as a father.
Here are the 7 principles that bring me back when I'm losing it:
1. GRATITUDE
When I'm frustrated, I force myself to pause and think:
"I GET TO have these kids."
Not everyone can. Some parents lost their kids and would give anything to hear that noise again.
I GET TO:
• Take care of them
• Answer their questions
• Clean up their messes
• Be their dad
Perspective shift changes everything.
2. PATIENCE
Parenting is a marathon, not a sprint.
Kids need to be told things 1,000 times. That's not failure—that's development.
They have low self-control because their brains aren't fully developed yet.
They're long-term investments. I won't see the ROI for 10-20 years.
They don't change overnight. Neither do I.
Be patient with them. Be patient with yourself.
3. HIGH STANDARDS + GRACE
I keep high expectations. But I'm patient when they fail.
They WILL fail. That's how they learn.
My job isn't to lower the bar because it's hard.
My job is to hold the standard while showing grace when they miss it.
Accountability + Love = Growth.
4. CONSISTENCY
Kids need to know what to expect.
If the rules change based on my mood, they lose respect for me.
Consistency means:
• Same rules for all kids
• Same consequences every time
• Following through on what I say
They need a rock, not a weather vane.
Be the rock.
5. EXTREME OWNERSHIP
When my kids are struggling, I ask myself:
"How have I contributed to this?"
Maybe I haven't been present enough.
Maybe I've been inconsistent with discipline.
Maybe I've modeled the behavior I'm now frustrated by.
Their behavior is a reflection of my leadership.
If I don't like what I see, I need to look in the mirror first.
6. FORGIVENESS
When they mess up, I handle it and move on.
I don't:
• Hold it over them
• Bring it up later
• Use shame or guilt to control them
They need to know: Mistakes don't define you.
I'm not raising robots. I'm raising critical thinkers who learn from failure.
Forgive quickly. Forget completely.
7. EMOTIONAL CONTROL
Parenting boils down to this:
Managing your emotions and teaching them to manage theirs.
If I lose control, they learn: "This is how we handle frustration."
If I stay calm, they learn: "We can handle hard things without falling apart."
My emotional regulation becomes their emotional regulation.
Look, I'm not a perfect parent.
I've yelled. I've overreacted. I've had moments I'm not proud of.
But these 7 principles bring me back every time:
1. Gratitude
2. Patience
3. High standards + Grace
4. Consistency
5. Extreme ownership
6. Forgiveness
7. Emotional control
Being a great father isn't about never messing up.
It's about coming back to the principles when you do.
Your kids don't need perfect. They need intentional.
Be that dad.

AUSTIN MAN keeps breaking into cars and apartments and stealing things. But prosecutors keep declining charges or sitting on them while he steals more.
Zachary Cranford is only 22 and already has 14 charges on his record. He has no mental health issues on file or drug treatment program on record. And no evidence of financial hardship; records show he has a registered address in a 3,400 sq ft home worth $814,000, though that likely belongs to his parents.
Despite this, prosecutors have made little effort to hold him accountable.
Partial timeline:
Jan 2022: Multiple drug possession charges - declined by prosecutors.
Nov 2022: More drug possession - declined by prosecutors.
Sept 2024: Caught with mail from six different neighbors and a stolen laptop. Caught red-handed with burglary tools. Prosecutors declined.
March 2025: Breaks into a woman's Mercedes at Trailhead East Apartments. Picks the lock on her storage unit and takes her DJ equipment. APD catches him on site in the surveillance-video outfit. Released shortly after.
July 2025: Rams the downtown 360 Condos parking gate with a Mercedes. Steals an e-bike. Released with pending charges.
December 2025: Caught loading two Kawasaki ATVs worth $10,400 onto a trailer. Hands cops a fake name and released to a hospital under his accomplice's identity. A month later, police arrest unwittingly arrest his accomplice on the same charges before realizing their mistake.
February 2026: Two new felony burglary charges on consecutive days.
Both County Attorney Delia Garza and District Attorney José Garza have repeatedly let Cranford off the hook since 2022. He now has pending charges that are nearly two years old, but he keeps being released to steal more.
