If you’ve gotten multiple doses of Novavax, BA.3.2 isn’t anything to specifically worry about. The antigenic distance between JN.1 (current Novavax target) and BA.3.2 is about equivalent to the distance between Wuhan (D614G) and BA.5, which we saw early in the pandemic. Multiple doses of Novavax handled that distance fine, which is where we first started to see the benefits of how multiple shots can reduce antigenic distance and create a more “universal-like” response. We don’t know yet what the vaccines will be targeting in the fall, the WHO (TAG-CO-VAC) and FDA (VRBPAC) will be meeting to discuss that in May. Personally, I’d rather the update be to XFG, which continues to dominate here. I don’t have the feeling that BA.3.2 will end up dominating in the end, buy we’ll have to see how it plays out in the next couple of months before the meeting. But in the meantime, Novavax coverage is adequate enough.
