Me with the sensational @eliopace after his sold out show at The London Palladium last night. Elio is touring his ‘Billy Joel Songbook’ show, a personal story of his passion for the songs, performed by Elio and his excellent band. Don’t miss it!
@LaindonFEMINIST Haven’t got my specs on and thought that said ‘Angela the daffodil’, and that it was going to be an impressive feat if you were naming them all individually 🤦🏼♀️🤭
As many of you know I now volunteer at a nature reserve. It has some rare snowdrops and daffodils. This is an Angels tear daffodil. I’d never heard of it. But it’s really rather stunning.
Today’s #retro#memory ! Who remembers when a Kidney was attached to a pork chop . I wonder why they don’t provide them like this now 🤷🏻🤷🏻 #porkchopgate#butchery
@GrumpyOldM79813@VictoriaCoren My nephew (now 32) always asked for the Elephants Gerald CD in the car when he was about 8. Her or ‘the man with the violins and piano’ aka Frank Sinatra…
I'm not saying we're elderly parents, but today when I told my 2-year-old not to drop her food on the floor, she sang "Don't drop your food on the floor, Mrs Worthington..."
@KeruboSk I’ve had to do this in a workplace. Be discreet and direct, but kind. And check back later/next day to make sure they feel ok.
Also - maybe have a drink or two before to bolster your courage 😉
If you haven't seen this it's worth a watch given that they want to run the county. If Doncaster's dynamic Reform leader, Councillor Craig Ward is what we have to look forward to, god help us! #ReformUK
@ArcadeBookshop1@HQstories Woohoo I spy an @ellygriffiths Ruth Galloway book in there - my favourite crime writer (I hope you’d already read The Crossing Places?).
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥳
Can you believe it's the last day of February?!
This pile of beauties is the books I've read this year so far that have gained a 4 or 5⭐️ rating from me.
No particular order, except The House of Fallen Sisters by Louise Hare @HQstories, which is my favourite of the year!
BREAKING NEWS 🚨
86.3% of people eligible to vote in Gorton and Denton did not vote for Reform UK!
72.3% of those who actually voted did not vote Reform!
Why are they getting so much air time on the BBC?
@tufdave My nephew came to ask my advice. Told me solemnly that he was in a love triangle and couldn’t see a solution as someone was going to be hurt, whatever happened. He was 5 years old… 🫠
@LaindonFEMINIST I’m surprised at just how much I find Polanski posturing, smug, untrustworthy and not even well-intentioned. The Greens seem to have lost sight of their original purpose and their current wish list is very troublesome.
I usually like most people.
But I don’t like a single leader of any Political Party other than the one in power.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt that before.
@LaindonFEMINIST I totally believe in Unions and was in Unite all my working life. Together with us, the workforce, they achieved good outcomes for members. But these days I’d find it hard to accept the tone of the leadership. Which is very sad.
Funny thing is I think everyone should join a Union. But not Sharon Graham’s one. Why would you want someone representing you that’s more Reform than Labour?
@8WithaTiara In response to our question “what is there to eat?”she’d reply “bread & iffits”, meaning if we’ve got it you can have it, if we haven’t you can’t…
@gem_ste Vision On. So ahead of its time - a regular programme for deaf children which everyone loved, children and adults, hearing or not. A highlight when I was a child. Magical memory - thankyou!
What's so notable about this clip is that this is primetime kids tv and it's a 5 minute scene of talk free, effects free, distraction free construction of a piece of art to a classical music soundtrack. This is what kids TV was. It's like viewing a lost world.
I'm out by a day, but 116 years ago yesterday the much loved comedienne, monologist and actress, Joyce Grenfell, was born Joyce Irene Phipps in Knightsbridge, London.
Some of Joyce's most famous monologues are from her nursery school series, best known by the repeated catchphrase “George… don’t do that!”
These wonderfully imagined pieces feature her as a kindly but at times increasingly exasperated nursery teacher trying to manage a chaotic class of young children. The monologues capture the gentle chaos of dealing with toddlers - endless interruptions, minor disasters, and the teacher’s polite but firm attempts to maintain order.
This particular one is entitled Storytime, and if you'd like to watch the whole thing it's on the Comedy Playlist on my YouTube channel, @JamesHoggWriter.
Bye for now, and God bless Joyce Grenfell x
There are times when the combined forces of the BBC News heavyweights - Zeffman, Mason, Farley et al - aren’t enough. When a presenter pops up on a dark & chilly Downing St. you know #BBCBreakfast is determined to squeeze every last drop of drama out of nothing happening.
@johnandi Followed by smug Henry Zeffman and Jon doing their talking heads bit. On and on and on and…. Looking so pleased with themselves. It’s tedious and meanwhile they aren’t reporting on genuine news. @BBCBreakfast knock it off!
I am watching BBC just now with John Kay trying to put the boot in again with over aggressive hectoring of Ed Miliband. This is not journalism. It is disgusting.
It's come to something when I absolutely no longer trust @BBC to tell me the truth.
My children do not watch the BBC, they get news elsewhere and I don't suppose they are unique.
If the BBC loses people of my age (67) then they are in danger of having no audience
