How many churches are there?
See Ephesians 4:5
What did our Blessed Lord intend for His Church? See John 17; all of Ephesians 4
Now see it manifest in the reality of history.

If one is a Christian, the truth of the Holy Catholic Church, except through ignorance is undeniable.

@AlitheiaKAT @sola_chad No. There is no such spelled out authority in the Bible. That is something exclusive to Catholics that you folks invented. Christianity doesn't owe it to you to pay attention to your power structure.
English

No. But one who does so out of love for God and in His Grace will.
One who after having the truth of the Holy Catholic Faith revealed to them and rejects it without repenting will suffer internal damnation.
Please lay down your pride and explore the truth of the Catholic Church, established by Jesus Christ apart from which there is no salvation.

The Holy Catholic Church and her Popes will be here long after your Protestant heresy dies. In the meantime, we continue to pray that God is merciful.
Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.
English

@havoc_211 @sola_chad Point is the pope has spiritual authority over all souls in church militant. And we must obey in matters of faith and morals. Additionally we owe him due honor according to the 4th Commandment.

The Threefold Mission of the Church is to govern, teach and sanctify. The laity (non-ordained) also share in this threefold mission through their own baptismal priesthood.
The Church governs the conscience and the spirit, while the State governs the body and social behavior. Ideally, the state's "material sword" acts as a protector for the Church's missions to teach and sanctify.
English

@Truth_matters20 YES! And it has been revealed by God through His Holy Catholic Church by the authority of God, who reveals and can neither deceive nor be deceived.
Ephesians 4:5

@antepedium Luther led countless souls out of God’s Holy Church. He will be held accountable for any lost souls on that count.

@TurretinFan @LizzieMarbach Mary Queen of Heaven, pray for us. Amen.

What's more blasphemous, a picture implying you have supernatural healing powers, or a prayer to Mary in the middle of a prayer to the Holy Trinity?

Maybe you should see what the church says before speaking with such hubris and frankly, error.
“And thou shalt put in the ark the testimony which I will give thee. Thou shalt make also a propitiatory of the purest gold: the length thereof shall be two cubits and a half, and the breadth a cubit and a half. Thou shalt make also two cherubims of beaten gold, on the two sides of the oracle. Let one cherub be on the one side, and the other on the other. Let them cover both sides of the propitiatory, spreading their wings, and covering the oracle, and let them look one towards the other, their faces being turned towards the propitiatory wherewith the ark is to to be covered. In which thou shalt put the testimony that I will give thee. Thence will I give orders, and will speak to thee over the propitiatory, and from the midst of the two cherubims, which shall be upon the ark of the testimony, all things which I will command the children of Israel by thee.” (Ex 25:16-22)
Now if God commanded the pure gold for His Testament, how much more for the New Testament, His only begotten Son, our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ. The Word made flesh (John 1) and placed His Word in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Luke 1)?
“And the temple of God was opened in heaven: and the ark of his testament was seen in his temple. And there were lightnings and voices and an earthquake and great hail. And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. And being with child, she cried travailing in birth: and was in pain to be delivered.” (REV 11:19 12:2)
Maybe you should study 1 Timothy 2:11-12

God is the holiest of holiest. Mary’s righteousness is like filthy rags compared to God, just like all humans.

Queen of Heaven and Earth. The holiest of the holiest. The Mother of God.

@Thatbrian Are you proposing that every pious practice must explicitly be in the Bible? Doesn’t that claim exceed what Protestants themselves claim sola scriptura is? And doesn’t this creep in scope create enmity where there should be none among Christians?
English

Catholicism has more in common with Paganism than Christianity.
Take a look at these practices, often based in fear and superstition:
Dipping fingers in holy water and making the Sign of the Cross upon entering a church
Use of blessed salt, oils, candles, or palms
Ashes on the forehead on Ash Wednesday
Scapulars (e.g., Brown Scapular) and miraculous medals worn for protection
Blessing of objects, homes, cars, or animals
Devotional Practices
Praying the Rosary (beads + repetitive Hail Marys)
Novenas (structured 9-day prayers for a specific intention)
Stations of the Cross (walking/praying through 14 scenes of Jesus' Passion)
Angelus (praying at 6am, noon, 6pm with bells)
Litanies (repetitive invocations to saints or Mary)
Veneration & Intercession
Veneration of saints (praying to them for intercession)
Prayers to Mary (Hail Mary, Salve Regina, etc.)
Processions with statues or relics
Lighting candles before statues or icons Liturgical &
Seasonal Customs
Incense used in Mass or processions
Clergy vestments (specific colors, chasubles, etc.)
Latin in the Traditional Latin Mass (Tridentine rite)

Not really:
Major premise: Sola Scriptura
Minor premise: Christ holds to scripture as the rule of faith.
Therefore:
1) the book of the Maccabees is scripture (canonical by expression of Christ)
Or
2) Sola scriptura is false.
I know to which of the two the church established by Jesus Christ holds.
English

@AlitheiaKAT @HansFiene Wow, you found a drawing and a made up story. Good job.
English

•Bishop of Antioch: He served as the third bishop of Antioch (following St. Peter and Evodius), leading one of the most important Christian communities in the Roman Empire for approximately 40 years.
•Apostolic Disciple: Tradition strongly identifies him as a disciple of the Apostle John. Some accounts even claim he was consecrated by St. Peter and St. Paul.
•"Theophorus" (The God-Bearer): This was his nickname. Some pious Tradition holds it was because he was the child Jesus held in his arms (Mark 9:36).
English

Ignatius of Antioch, writing around 110 A.D., declared that the presence of a bishop is essential for the valid existence of the Church, equating the community's union with its bishop to its union with Christ. His famous quote, "Wherever the bishop appears, there let the people be, even as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church" (Letter to the Smyrnaeans, Chapter 8)
English

Where in the early church is the term "Catholic" directly tied to submitting to the universal, infallible, & supreme authority of the Roman pontiff?
English

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), Jesus Christ is the sole and unique mediator between God and humanity, reconciling divinity and humanity through his Incarnation and sacrificial death. While other forms of mediation exist, they are participatory, subordinate, and dependent on Christ's single mediator role.
English

@Johnny_Joey 1 Timothy 2:5: "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"
English

@AlitheiaKAT @sola_chad If anything the President has more authority over the pope due to him still being an American citizen.
English

“Let every soul be subject to higher powers. For there is no power but from God: and those that are ordained of God. Therefore, he that resisteth the power resisteth the ordinance of God. And they that resist purchase to themselves damnation. For princes are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good: and thou shalt have praise from the same. For he is God's minister to thee, for good. But if thou do that which is evil, fear: for he beareth not the sword in vain. For he is God's minister: an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doth evil. Wherefore be subject of necessity: not only for wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. For therefore also you pay tribute. For they are the ministers of God, serving unto this purpose. Render therefore to all men their dues. Tribute, to whom tribute is due: custom, to whom custom: fear, to whom fear: honour, to whom honour.” (Rm 13:1-7)
English

the Pope is a pastor—specifically, the "Supreme Pastor" or universal shepherd of the entire Church.
The Pope (Bishop of Rome) is the successor to St. Peter, whom Jesus appointed as the chief shepherd. Key biblical reference: John 21:15-17, where Jesus tells Peter to "feed my lambs," "tend my sheep," and "feed my sheep." This is establishing Peter's unique pastoral role over the whole flock, passed on to his successors.
Official Catholic documents call the Pope the "Supreme Pastor" of the universal Church, with full, supreme, and universal power over it (as stated in Lumen Gentium and Pastor Aeternus from Vatican I). He is the visible head, vicar of Christ, and chief shepherd, while local bishops and priests serve as pastors of their dioceses and parishes.
In practice:
- Local Catholic priests are often called "pastor" for their parish.
- The Pope oversees the global "pastoral office."
English

@AlitheiaKAT @sola_chad "Obey your prelates and be subject to them." Speaking as a protestant, the pope isn't ours. That would be a pastor.
Additionally as an American Citizen, the pope is the leader of a foreign nation therefore still doesn't have authority over us.
