"Intel Default Settings" - what we know so far
- similar to Gigabyte's Baseline profile
- lower than Intel's Standard profile in Oct. 2022
- still unknown: AC loadline (but important!)

@Don_Iniestazo Gracias por ese hermoso momento @Don_Iniestazo !!! Creo que vivi muy pocos momentos de tanta emoción.

@Locuza_ @anandtech It's 64.
GCN have a HARD LIMIT of 4096/64.
English

@anandtech Whats up with the 128 ROPs?
Block diagrams from AMD show the same rendering backend with 64 ROPs.
Something is wrong, either the information or the diagrams and their visual representation.
Other Vega10 and Vega20 diagrams use the same 8 boxes per pixel backend.

@AshEvans81 I'm confident you will, humanity needs you!
I'm aware you use picoATX, but what do you think about the DreamPSU for this project, or a similar, custom made PSU?
There is also the true digital output @citrus3000psi and @chriz2600 are working on.
#DreamcastSlim 2020 confirmed.
English

@AllanDavidson tbh, if I can even get half of this stuff working, it will be a huge milestone. hehe
At the very least, the GD emu should work equally as well as the current offerings, and most people seem more than happy with that.
I do get the concerns, but it's one step at a time atm. :)
English

@AshEvans81 Are you aware about the GDEMU / USB GD-ROM differences?
3do-renovation.ru/comparation.htm
English

@AllanDavidson The new board will have a proper GD Emu onboard, with USB 2.0 anyway.
Plus an on-screen menu for selecting a new game image, or changing disks, without needing to restart into a menu.
As good as Dreamshell is, I don't think it will ever be fully compatible, due to how it works.
English

@AshEvans81 But the Lan/BBA will be emulated on the onboard devices at the PCB or will it require a external USB adapter?
English

@AllanDavidson In theory, the STM32 might be able to handle a USB Ethernet adapter as well as handling the GD Emu stuff.
The FPGA will be hooked up to all the DC busses.
The intention is to "emulate" the DC modem or LAN / BBA on the FPGA, so it can connect directly to the DreamPi servers.
English

@AshEvans81 Oh, there is something else.
Naomi games force-copy the whole GD content to the onboard 1GB/2GB RAM during power-on boot. This prevent 24/7 disk readings, increase reading speeds, reduces power consumption and helps the disk longevity.
English

@AllanDavidson The original GD drive can only read at a maximum 16.66 MBytes/sec anyway.
(MultiWord DMA Mode 2.)
This is fixed in the hardware too, and actually closer to 10-12 MB/s in practice.
I think even a cheap USB stick or HDD should manage to keep up. ;)
English

@AshEvans81 Is there a hardwired limit to the reading speed? Is 16MB/s the max?
Devices like the G1-IDE and G1-ATA simply allow you to connect a ATA133 HDD to the data bus.
Having read speeds beyond USB 2.0 would probably elimite Loading Screens.
English

@AshEvans81 Being able to just hookup any Bluetooth controller (like the Xbox Controller or PS3 controller) would be a godtier solution.
I think the main problem would be the controller driver. I don't know if the basic Bluetooth driver would work.
English

@AllanDavidson It will have an ESP32 on the final board, so will have both 2.4 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth. ;)
I don't know how far along the "Bluetooth Classic" code is atm though, but I've read that the module should at least support it.
BLE is currently working.
English

@AshEvans81 My problem is with the FAT32. Not that the 4GB fileira limite would be an issue, but I don't know if the DC would be able to read partitions with more than 32GB.
English

@AllanDavidson Small USB HDDs are a thing, though.
With a Pico PSU, the DC should power it OK too.
A 2.5" drive can also fit under the GD drive.
Or, the games could be streamed via Ethernet. I'm just not sure if the STM32 has quite enough grunt to handle that yet. On paper, it does.
English

@AshEvans81 I believe a cheap 512GB SSD would be enough in both speed and storage (being able to fit a 7z Fullset), and consume way less power than a 2.5" hdd, rendering the additional power supply unnecessary.
I even talked about M.2, it would reduce the overall footprint even more.
English

@AshEvans81 Using uncompressed GD backups (just a folder with all the GD tracks inside) on the 32GB SD/USB would limit the storage to 32 DC games or even less Naomi games.
English

@AshEvans81 The issue with USB/FAT32 is size (and random speed).
Consider a highly compressed 300GB game library, not only it wouldn't fit in most USB/SD, it also would need to be decompressed first so DC can access the track.raw files.
Now consider the read/write speeds on SD/USB drives.
