Totally agree, but I think this lesson has been learned many times well before 10/7. They could have (and should have) done what was necessary to end the Hamas/Palestinian conflict permanently a very long time ago but were restrained by the US. It's incredibly unfair because I can guarantee you if it was the US dealing with the attacks Israel has had to tolerate the response would have been very different. We would never tolerate continued attacks from any group of people without completely destroying them.
