Latinx are 18.4% of the general population in the US; Representation on medical schools 12% allopathic medical students and 5-6% osteopathic; On faculty 4-5%. We need representation! Latinos ❤️

Still processing this one. Truly honored to be selected for the 2026 NHMA 40 Under 40 Award by the National Hispanic Medical Association. ⭐️ As a Latino physician, immigrant, and GI fellow, this recognition means a lot to me. Grateful to my mentors, colleagues, friends, family, and patients for all the support along the way. Thank you, NHMA, for this honor. @NHMAmd

Awesome paper @ibdgijami ! My two cents on Socratic Method & questioning is —> how you experience it can impact can you feel about the method or how successful it is. Learners value questioning when it: • Helps them think through a problem • Feels guided, not performative • Happens in a psychologically safe space They disengage when it: • Feels like a test instead of teaching • Exposes gaps without support • Creates pressure rather than clarity Faculty often believe they are teaching. Learners sometimes experience it as evaluation. That gap matters. In procedural fields like GI, questioning happens in real time. In front of teams. During high-stakes moments. How we ask matters just as much as what we ask. A simple shift: • Start with where the learner is • Build the next step, not the trap • Make thinking visible, not mistakes The goal is not to catch learners off guard. It is to build how they think. Curious to know what educators in this space think!

Who loves teaching? 🙋🏻‍♀️ During feedback session today with one of my trainees I get feedback too- turns out they found probing ❓to be valuable- the art of Socratic method Reminded me of paper we did in 2021 showing student + faculty perspectives ➡️ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33394663/

𝗔𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱: If I had a penny for every time I’ve had to debunk these same false claims, I’d be a millionaire by now. Let’s get the facts straight. J-1 physicians transitioning to H-1B status through programs like the Conrad 30 Waiver Program are not exploiting a loophole, they are fulfilling a legally structured, highly regulated pathway designed to serve the American public. These physicians commit to three years of full-time service in federally designated underserved areas, places where healthcare systems have already failed to recruit U.S. graduates. Approval is not automatic, facilities must prove a genuine shortage before a waiver is granted. This is not about bypassing the system. This is the system working exactly as intended, to ensure millions of Americans in rural and high-need communities actually have access to care. Misinformation doesn’t change facts. It only highlights a lack of understanding of how the U.S. healthcare system truly operates. uscis.gov/working-in-the… #Match2026 #Matchday #MedX #MedTwitter #h1bvisa #USMLE
Mary Talley Bowden MD@MaryBowdenMD

It’s much easier to get a J1 visa than an H1B visa. But J1 visas are meant to be temporary, and recipients must promise to go home. The foreign/alien medical students have found a way to rig the system. They come over on a J1 visa then manage to switch it to a H1B visa. @StateDept
