@IndivisibleAlta What the left asks is "Why did you start from a position of weakness? Taking MFA off the table before you start?" This is why the GOP keeps winning. Dems never take a fking STAND. "Vote for the Dems, it's better than nothing."

Anyone who was around and is not operating in bad faith could tell you that passing the ACA was the legislative equivalent of landing a man on the freakin' moon. Seeing Leftists, 20 years later scoff like "you couldn't even try for Jupiter?" is why we hate them.

@aobrien2010 I couldn't believe it when I saw those ads; that's like the Number One rule of Maine politics: Don't Go Negative! (Use surrogates). She has to be using consultants recommended by Schumer; that stuff works in NY but not here.

I think Janet Mills going negative in this campaign is going to be remembered as an epic blunder. Normie Dems & even many of her diehard supporters find it distasteful. I think it actually helps Graham. The establishment needs to accept he will be the nominee or get steamrolled

@ColeSandick I saw that ad and was like "What the HELL? You can't go negative right off the bat in Maine! Is she trying to throw the race to Collins?" Just bad politics. Amateur night. Mills is bad at this. I'm sorry, she just is.

Between Mills, Crockett and Cuomo, the Dems are vastly underestimating how much normal voters hate liberal identity politics. We’re tired of being called racist and sexist for boilerplate takes like “politicians should talk about the economy” and “Israel shouldn’t bomb children.

@DannyDrinksWine Honestly I would have loved to see it but Mifune is TOO powerful a presence. Morita is convincing as a janitor with secrets.

Initially, Toshirô Mifune auditioned for the role of Mister Miyagi in "The Karate Kid" (1984). According to director John G. Avildsen in the DVD commentary, Mifune was great in the audition, but Avildsen felt that his version of Miyagi was too serious and too much like the samurai warriors he played in Akira Kurosawa movies. Producer Jerry Weintraub didn't want Pat Morita to audition for Miyagi because he didn't think a comedian would be taken seriously in the role. Morita wasn't even allowed to audition at first, but Weintraub eventually relented after he was unable to find anybody who he was satisfied with. (Source: IMDb)

@Frasier67Blank @bdquinn Arghh! She won against the despised "Trump before there was Trump" (his actual slogan!) Paul Lepage, not the still (bizarrely) popular Collins.

The Maine Senate race is kind of a perfect encapsulation of the Democratic Party's problem. The establishment gathering around an old, not especially popular party stalwart and the activists gathering around a highly flawed charismatic newcomer. Anyway, congrats Susan Collins.

Happy 75th Birthday, Kurt Russell Kurt and John Carpenter gave us three iconic characters: Snake Plissken, R.J. MacReady, and Jack Burton. Jack’s my favourite, blundering through Big Trouble in Little China with zero clue is pure genius. Just don’t question his reflexes.

@RachelBitecofer Do you vote for the candidate who is essentially the same candidate that the Dems have run against Collins since Christ was a cowboy (only worse at campaigning) or the fresh voice with appeal to progressives AND libertarian-leaning GOP voters (which is a significant # up here)?

Gee, should I vote for the person who has been elected statewide in Maine twice, or the one that has never won elected office and will spend all of the fall defending his tattoo and past comments? That’s a hard one.

@blankslate2017 @JoshShapiroPA That is a stupid thing to do right now. I DON'T agree with the premise this leads to BUT a framing of "Does a state that commits genocide have a right to exist?" turns that question on its head and doesn't have the answer you want.

@DannyDrinksWine Oh, hell no. Not one of those is as good as the least of the prior five (nor will people be talking about them 50 years later, except "Sinners" as a pioneer).

@Myday2 @KennethBaer Mills is a dull campaigner and has a Medicaid "scandal" (not really but they're already playing it up). Platner is a strong campaigner whose scandals seem to roll off him (thought he was done after the tattoo tbh).

@AmericanEntrop1 @KennethBaer The question is can this guy who constantly comes up with new excuses for his past ,has a high school education, NAZI tattoos, His post along is enough for Collins to destroy him but much more to work with That said your decision

@hypatialee05 @KennethBaer Mills is a good governor but won't win over Collins' voters. I know it looks that way to an outlander but anyone up here looking at it objectively will tell you the same.

@trouble_man90 People went to the polls not even knowing that Biden wasn't running. This isn't about what people WANTED, it's about a largely unknown (to the low-information public) candidate running against a Brand Name. Another few months and it's a different story.

@Alejandro27Ale He's gonna win the primary so I expect you to sing the song: "Vote blue no matter who." Or were the people who drew a line with Kamala RIGHT? (btw proudly voted 4 Kam, just don't like hypocrisy)

It appears that Graham Platner fans are under the assumption that the Republicans just…won’t attack him in the general? Is it bc they naively believe everyone’s gonna hold hands and come together now that someone has shouted about “M4A” and “oligarchy?” Nevermind the Nazi tattoo

@shauna1187 My feeling on older members is that if they are effective and full of fight like Bernie is they should stay. If they are comfortable and corporate they should go. That applies to younger members too.

@timmckay52 Maybe they should look to George RR Martin's example. He was a "horror author" up until, well, you know. Now he's a "fantasy author." But you put "Fevre Dream" next ASOIAF and the former is the TAMER of the two. The genres meld nicely in the right hands.

I didn't realize how many horror authors despise the fantasy genre. This makes me sad, because I love horror in fantasy. Wish we had more crossover. Just me?

@Jay_McGill94 Non-Mainers don't get it. Moderates ALREADY vote for Collins and she won't lose any of them, certainly not to Mills. Platner will get the left (most of the south). independents (who want exactly the sort of politician Platner is) and libertarian-ish GOP voters (a LOT up here).

@davidcrockett08 People who don't know Maine are gonna be gobsmacked by how low-info voters are going to react once they become familiar with Platner. It's unlikely that he'll win by triple digits but I wouldn't rule it out.

"Mills is more electable" was a plausible line early in the race, but I'm not sure it's plausible any more. I'm not a big fan of the guy, but he seems to have the juice with voters. The scandals don't seem to matter very much.
