I’m old enough to remember when the NPP and FV blamed all of the same on the individualism caused by either Luther’s doctrine of justification or Reformed soteriology more generally, since these are said to focus our minds on two things you cannot objectively see—the decree as it is in God and the state of man’s soul. Trouble was, when either Wright or some FV proponent began explaining what they meant, they only ever succeeded in describing Dispensationalist or Pietist escapism, or else the most extreme cases of introspection among the Puritans out of context, or finally some Gnostic reductionism more characteristic of post-war Calvinism under its nature-destroying iterations of either Barth or Van Til. Nothing demonstrably essential to Reformed orthodoxy is ever successfully shown to be a genuine cause. Tiresome.

Tucker sees the problem. Many have seen it, and many have concluded that a new Protestant denomination will fix it. But there are thousands of denominations. It never works, and can’t. The solution is for everyone to return home to the Catholic Church.

Clearly she needs to find a new pastor, since he obviously doesn’t understand the Bible, Catholicism OR Purgatory. Catholicism has never taught you can “earn your way to heaven” or that heaven is something you get “prayed into”. And Purgatory is 100% biblical. Always has been.

Denying infant baptism and the connection to abortion: I've observed that many of the arguments that some Protestants make against infant baptism are analogous to the arguments made by pro-abortionists for abortion/infanticide: “Infants can't choose, think, speak, talk, believe, etc.” Baptists who deny infant baptism are arguing against the full human viability of the infant. Yet the Old and New Testaments speak of infants as believing and praising God. I have 8 children - all baptized as babies. They became BELIEVERS at baptism. They never “became believers” later on. They believed in Jesus and prayed at ages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… all the way into their 20s. They were born again as infants. Because babies are fully viable humans. For thou art he that hast drawn me out of the womb: my hope from the breasts of my mother. (Ps 21:10)

Battling people who hate the Catholic church is an effective strategy to bring people into the church. People see their lies, and research the truth. They see your rebukes, and research the truth. Defend the truth, defend the faith, and the church grows.
