when i was young, pre abuse, i knew myself. after decades of coercive control i no longer know me. it may sound strange but i've started getting to know myself, like you would meeting someone new. favorite color? music? movies? books? style? i ask myself everything.

@emilykmay when i was suffering post partum depression in the 90's i told the psychologist that my husband was not helping with any housework or getting up at night with the baby, she told me 'men's heads are full of rocks'.

so much of the crappy trad wife advice boils down to, "all you can do is work on not being annoyed with your husband for being inconsiderate and never doing anything- God just made men that way!"

@kaylajohnsonatl a well liked dr at a hospital i worked at was looking for a surrogate for his baby-he was predatory-only cute, young women were approached-the money was just enough to be a lot for someone young but not enough to really impact him. no matter how you slice it, its not good.

@realgirl_fieri sadly my step son came to me unable to cut his own food at 12!! unable to make his own bed, unable to do most domestic chores. he was 'too busy' doing sports and school. life skills are important people.

@Amy07070409 @HorowitzLana My great heartbreak is realizing I have never been truly loved.... I unconsciously chose narcissists like my parent who were incapable of loving others. They chose me because I was so loving, devoted, and giving; and they fed off me. It's all I wish for now.

I'm going to re-write this: The more I heal, the more I realize I've never been in love. Any boyfriends I may have had were just good looking distractions from my dysfunctional family. This is a great realization, makes me happy & leaves me more open. Truth will do that,
