With all due respect to the fighters there's a reason why there's never been any MMA fighters on the Forbes top 100 athlete list outside of Conor McGregor.

I explained it in other posts but this was the most expensive MMA card ever put together. Disclosed purses are understated to avoid California's income tax. Fighters were paid not just to fight but to promote/influence/consult. The *real* purses were north of $50m (maybe 75m)

@arielhelwani It's a thing in every combat sport when Canelo rematched Golovkin the reported purses were $5 million and $4 million then they got a cut of the PPV and gate and their own sponsors. I think newer fans don't understand this because the UFC got commissions to stop reporting them.

Maybe the prelim payouts are accurate, but for the top guys? No chance.
There’s the “disclosed payout,” and then there’s the actual agreement behind the scenes. This has always been a thing in MMA.

@mmanewstroll @arielhelwani He isn't lying all the commission reports is the upfront guaranteed amount given to them to hold in escrow. Same with every combat sport. When Nate fought Conor the reported was 500k and 1 million but Conor got $5.5 million and Nate got $2.8 million.

After speaking to multiple sources here’s clarity on the bonuses:
If you score a finish (worth $25k) and, say, a performance bonus (worth $100k), you get $100k not 125k. I think many of us, including me, assumed the latter. It’s basically the greater of two bonuses.
If you win a fight of the night bonus (worth $100k) and score a finish and earn a performance bonus, too, you get $200k not $225.
