Laureen and I are profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of a great Canadian and valued friend and colleague, the Hon. Chuck Strahl. Chuck was an outstanding Minister of Agriculture, Transport, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and, a valued colleague at the Cabinet table.  An early ally in helping build our united Conservative Party, over the course of 18 years in Parliament he was a respected voice for his constituents and a tireless advocate for western Canada.     None who served with Chuck will ever forget his warm and personable character, natural talent as a communicator, and striking baritone voice. Chuck was also a man of abiding faith. His positivity shone through even as he navigated the toughest of challenges.      Chuck’s greatest legacy was his family, of which he was rightly proud. Debby, Karina, Mark, Loni, and Kyla – thank you for supporting Chuck through his many years of public service. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.

The end of an era. With great thanks and appreciation to a great Minister and an even better boss. So lucky to have had the opportunity to have worked with him during such a historic time. Congratulations @HonEdFast!

On behalf of our family, Laureen, Ben, Rachel, and I offer our deepest sympathies to Mila, Caroline, Ben, Mark, Nicholas, and their families. History will record that Mr. Mulroney’s premiership was transformational.   Prime Minister Mulroney fought to secure the Free Trade Agreement with the United States, from which Canada has benefitted immensely ever since.   Prime Minister Mulroney stood for freedom and democracy on the world stage, in his principled opposition to apartheid in South Africa, his enduring support for Israel, and his advocacy of independence for Ukraine and the other European nations long under the yoke of Soviet communism.   Prime Minister Mulroney championed significant international environmental measures including the Montreal Protocol and the Canada-US Acid Rain Treaty.   Mr. Mulroney will also be remembered as the first Canadian Conservative leader to win back-to-back majority mandates since Sir John A. Macdonald, including the largest electoral victory in Canadian history.   Canada has lost a historic figure, and we mourn his passing with all his many friends and associates.

The role our Indigenous partners play in building a stronger, more sustainable Saskatchewan is second to none! Honoured to moderate a panel discussion at #COP28 with NexGen Energy, Enbridge, and Meadow Lake Tribal Council on the key role Indigenous participation plays in our strong and growing economy.

I am so very sad to hear of Ian’s passing. I worked very closely with him when he was Deputy Minister in a number of portfolios and respected him very much.
